The Right to Die in America: Its Constitutional, Legal, and
Medical Impact
Atty. William H. Colby, Author and Senior Fellow, Center for
Practical Bioethics, Kansas City, Missouri.
Get ready for a truly riveting talk about the ethics of
end-of-life decisions. William Colby’s portrayal of the medical and
legal sagas certain people go through when dying has been called moving
and thought provoking. Colby represented the family of Nancy Cruzan in
their controversial right-to-die case, the first such case heard by the
U.S. Supreme Court. He wrote Long Goodbye: The Deaths of Nancy Cruzan
in 2003 about that case.
Colby has been interviewed on Larry King Live, CNN, MSNBC,
Hardball, FoxNews, Good Morning America, NPR, Today, CBS This Morning,
and similar programs, and speaks across the country on the issues we
face at the end of life.
Colby is the Senior Fellow, Law and Patient Rights, with the
Center for Practical Bioethics in Kansas City. The Center helps
communities find practical solutions to ethical problems in the health
and healthcare arena, with a model that borrows and blends strategies
and strengths from the bioethics, health decisions, public health, and
continuous quality improvement movements.
His latest book is Unplugged: Reclaiming Our Right to Die in
America.
