Platform Statement
I am honored to be nominated to continue to serve of the Wisconsin Judicial Council and I thank the State Bar of Wisconsin for considering my nomination. The purpose of the Judicial Council is to craft law that is easy to understand and fair to all parties. With your support, I look forward to continuing in this endeavor.
Over the past year I have enjoyed working on the Wisconsin Judicial Council, including serving on both the Criminal Procedure committee and the Evidence and Civil Procedure committee. The Council continues work on issues including a complete re-write of criminal procedure statutes, codifying case law on section 906.09, eliminating sections 885.16 and 885.17 (the so-called “dead man’s statute”), drafting a Wisconsin class action statute, and filing petitions with the supreme court regarding prisoner litigation and the rules on multi-party appellate briefs.
When making my contributions to the Council, I rely on my own experiences in the legislative office of a U.S. Senator, the Board of Governors and Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar, and the councils of the ABA YLD and Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division, as well as on the insights shared with me by colleagues throughout Wisconsin and the American Bar Association who work in relevant practice areas. I believe that with my experiences and my nationwide network, I am ideally positioned to continue to serve on the Judicial Council.
