The Best Tools to Represent Your Clients: Family Law in Wisconsin: A Forms and Procedures Handbook

From initial client interviews to postjudgment actions, Family Law in Wisconsin: A Forms and Procedures Handbook covers all aspects of family law. State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE’s best-selling reference is newly supplemented for 2018.

Oct. 17, 2018 – Family members navigating divorce or separation depend on attorneys for practical advice and efficient advocacy to obtain the best possible outcomes.

In Wisconsin, attorneys can count on Family Law in Wisconsin: A Forms and Procedures Handbook from State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE® for support in providing the best possible representation, no matter how difficult the process.

Originally published 40 years ago by the esteemed family law practitioner Leonard Loeb and regularly revised by Gregg Herman and Sharon Drew, this latest edition and supplement were prepared by Herman and Kelley Shock.

Practice Tools for Every Twist and Turn

Now in its ninth edition and supplemented annually, the two-volume handbook leads attorneys through the labyrinth of family law with current legal guidance, practice tools, and forms.

From initial client interviews to postjudgment actions, Family Law in Wisconsin covers all aspects of divorce, including child custody hearings, property division, and spousal support and maintenance awards. It also offers valuable information about visitation rights of nonparents, domestic abuse, child abuse, harassment orders, and appointment of guardians ad litem.

Family Law in Wisconsin gives lawyers the tools to best represent clients. The overviews, outlines, checklists, and annotated forms ensure lawyers address every relevant issue. The Master Information List and Office Master File offer an easy-to-use system for setting up new client files.

    The Latest on Statutory Changes

In some cases, the thorniest issues arise after the divorce is final.

Effective April 5, 2018, Wisconsin Act 203 modified the procedure for relocating children under Wis. Stat. section 767.481, as recently discussed in Christopher S. Krimmer's article, “Dissecting the New Family Relocation Statute,” in the July 2018 issue of Wisconsin Lawyer magazine.

Now, rather than filing notice, a parent wishing to relocate with a child must file a motion with the court containing detailed information about the relocation plan. Family Law in Wisconsin contains a detailed explanation of the new procedure as well as updated pleadings ready for immediate use.

In addition to covering the major changes to child relocation procedure, the supplement to the ninth edition includes up-to-date forms and incorporates pertinent federal tax changes made by the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
