Explore Health Care Cost Savings: Learn about the State Bar's Group Health Plan for Law Firms

The State Bar of Wisconsin offers a health care insurance option for law firms with two or more employees. Learn how this option for law firms might cut costs of your 2022 coverage. To have coverage by Jan. 1, file your paperwork by Dec. 15.

Dec. 1, 2021 – For health care coverage starting Jan. 1, 2022, now is the time to explore whether the State Bar Group Health Plan for Law Firms is right for your firm.

Remember, law firms can enroll in the group health plan at any time throughout the year, not just during open enrollment. For coverage effective Jan. 1, 2022, paperwork must be submitted by Dec. 15, 2021.

The Group Health Plan for Law Firms provides health care coverage options for attorneys, their staff, and dependents.

The plan provides valuable benefits, and may even lower your costs – new groups enrolling in the Group Health Plan could cut their costs by as much as 50 percent, subject to underwriting. Cost savings vary based on product, benefit level, and network location in the state.

To qualify, law firms need to employ at least two non-family members who work 26 hours or more per week (i.e., lawyer and one other employee), and coverage must be offered to all, but may be declined.

Under current federal and state association health plan law, the State Bar’s plan cannot provide coverage to individual attorneys either working as solo practitioners without at least one nonfamily employee.
