The State Bar's consumer-focused cable TV show, Law Talk,
recently taped four new 30-minute segments. Iowa County Circuit Judge
Bill Dyke returns as host and moderator of the popular program, which
first aired in 1997. Law Talk programs are a public outreach
project sponsored by the State Bar's Media-Law Relations Committee to
educate the public about lawyers and the legal profession.
"Law Talk was a good program seven years ago, and we are
delighted to produce more programs to help educate the public about our
legal system," says Dyke.
"I think the legal profession and our court system must be more
understandable to the public," continues Dyke. "That means we can't
always wait for the public to come to us. We've got to get out and
increase our educational effort."
During the first program, Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson joins
Judge Dyke to discuss Wisconsin's court system and the celebration of
significant events in Wisconsin's legal history. In the second program,
State Bar Legal Assistance Committee Chair Mary Triggiano discusses how
people can access legal services, especially services for low-income
individuals; and State Bar Family Law Section Chair John Short and
incoming Chair Tom Glowacki, respectively, discuss issues commonly
confronting families going through a divorce in the third and fourth
segments.
Law Talk is expected to air in mid-June on about 25 local
cable access channels throughout the state. Air dates will be announced
at www.wisbar.org as they become
available.
