Updated citation resources now available through the State Bar, special discounts apply

State Bar CLE Books now offers its members new editions of two time-honored citation resources - The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation© 2005, 18th edition, and the State Bar CLE Books Wisconsin Guide to Citation, sixth edition.

Members can order The Bluebook directly through the State Bar at a special discount or free with some orders. For generations, lawyers, judges, law students, scholars, and other legal professionals have relied on The Bluebook's system of citation, which is produced by the Columbia Law Review Association and others.

The new edition features the following major changes:

    • The new "Bluepages" is a how-to guide providing easy-to-comprehend instruction for citation needs.
    • The former Table 8, listing suggested abbreviations for the titles of court documents, has been incorporated into the Bluepages as Table 1.
    • Rule 18, Electronic Media and Other Nonprint Resources, has been updated in response to the needs associated with increasing use of Internet citation. Major changes include categorization into two kinds of Internet citations (direct and parallel), expanded use of analogy in Internet citation, and the addition of citation formats for blogs.
    • Rule 21, International Materials, has been completely rewritten to correspond to majority citation conventions in the foreign and international legal fields.
    • The new Bluepages Table 2, Jurisdiction-Specific Citation Rules and Style Guides, references local rules and a number of jurisdiction-specific manuals providing guidance on local citation practices.
    • Table 1, U.S. Jurisdictions, has been revised to reflect the most current titles for the various statutory compilations, session laws, and administrative compilations and registers.
    • Table 2, Foreign Jurisdictions, provides detailed and current citation information for dozens of countries and other jurisdictions. Table 2 was expanded in response to increasing cross-border emphasis in both legal practice and research.

In conjunction with The Bluebook's release, State Bar CLE Books has updated its Wisconsin Guide to Citation, which focuses on Wisconsin citations and provides examples for citing the most common primary and secondary authorities in briefs and memoranda, including the public domain citation format for Wisconsin court cases. It also shows how to cite legal research services and electronic databases. In addition, the guide provides examples of citations to Wisconsin administrative proceedings and appeals, and suggests sources for locating copies of such decisions.

CLE Books is offering The Bluebook for $22.45, 10 percent off the list price. Members can receive free or deeply discounted copies of The Bluebook with their purchase of other State Bar CLE Books publications: Order $299 in State Bar CLE Books titles, and receive The Bluebook for free; with an order of $159 to $298 in State Bar CLE Books titles, The Bluebook is $12.48 (50 percent off).
