Jan. 6, 2010 – The new Wisconsin Wills for Heroes program needs you! In this program, trained volunteers provide free estate planning education, basic wills, living wills, health care powers of attorney, and financial powers of attorney for eligible publicly employed or volunteer police officers, firefighters, EMTs and their spouses or domestic partners. This is an important public service for a group of men and women who are prepared to pay the ultimate price in the line of duty. Learn more about how you can help here.
“Wills for Heroes is great way to demonstrate the value of Wisconsin lawyers and give back to our communities” according to State Bar pro bono coordinator Jeff Brown. The program was developed by volunteers from Foley & Lardner LLP, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the Young Lawyers Division and the Real Property Probate & Trusts Section with the help of the national Wills for Heroes Foundation and donations from LexisNexis.”
Wills for Heroes launched in late 2009 with a clinic for first responders in Milwaukee, and since then it has received an overwhelmingly positive response from first responder organizations in every region of the state. The next clinic is planned for the Fox Valley. The schedule of additional clinics will depend on matching requests for clinics with the volunteer response in the area.
