March 4, 2009 – The 2009 Wisconsin Equal Justice Conference will bring together community representatives committed to ensuring civil equal justice for the poor and disadvantaged. The conference will take place on April 28, at the U.W. Pyle Center in Madison. At this event, organized by the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Legal Assistance Committee, attendees will explore innovative models that lawyers, courts, and other organizations are using to move Wisconsin closer to equal justice under law.

Representatives from Michigan and Montana will join in this year’s conversations to describe innovations in their states. The agenda builds on the ideas and feedback from the more than 200 attendees at the first Wisconsin Equal Justice Conference in 2007. The 2009 conference will kick off with an Access to Justice Update, followed by breakout sessions on a broad range of topics.

• Morning breakout sessions include: pro bono collaborations; unbundling and pro se models for improving access to justice; and expanding access in rural areas.

• Afternoon breakout sessions include: patient and advocate partnerships for access to health care; new roles for senior lawyers; and partnerships to boost employability.

This all-day program is only $25 for State Bar members and will be submitted for CLE credit.
