Give 17-Year-Olds a Second Chance: Contact Your Legislator

Feb. 17, 2014 – Help the State Bar of Wisconsin send a bill to the governor’s desk, which would return first-time, nonviolent 17-year-old offenders to juvenile court jurisdiction. Please take a moment to reach out to your state representative and senator to seek their support and assistance in passing the Second Chance Bill (Assembly Bill 387/Senate Bill 308). Time is running out on this legislative session with only a few short weeks before final adjournment – so please don’t delay in calling or emailing your legislators.

    Get Involved

To help you take the next step in the process, the State Bar government relations team has prepared a sample message for your legislator that you can quickly copy and paste into the body of an email. For your convenience, all Second Chance materials are located at wisbar.org/govrelations

Getting this legislation signed into law is one of the State Bar’s top priorities, and we hope that you can take a few minutes out of your day to help achieve this goal. If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Government Relations Staff Sandy Lonergan at (608) 250-6045 or slonergan@wisbar.org or Katie Stenz at (608) 250-6145 or kstenz@wisbar.org.
