Wisconsin adopts federal income tax treatment providing tax-free health benefits to certain adult children
Nov. 16, 2011 – As of Nov. 4, 2011, Wisconsin employers are no longer required to calculate and impute the fair market value of any employer-sponsored health benefits provided to adult children who will be under age 27 at the end of the tax year. This means Wisconsin employers should immediately stop all fair market value calculations and imputation of Wisconsin income with respect to these children, says attorneys Todd Cleary and Sven Skillrud.
Trespasser liability: Wisconsin Legislature votes to codify existing law
Nov. 16, 2011 – A bill passed in both the Wisconsin Assembly and the Senate and awaiting Gov. Walker's consideration would preempt Wisconsin courts from adopting a unitary duty of care to trespassers. Currently, possessors of real property have no duty to trespassers, besides refraining from willful, wanton, or reckless conduct causing injury or death without justification.
Judgment interest: Bill reducing interest rates on court judgments awaits final signature
Nov. 16, 2011 – Interest on civil court judgments in Wisconsin is currently 12 percent. But both houses of the Wisconsin Legislature have passed a bill that would change judgment interest rates in civil cases to the prime rate plus 1 percent, currently 4.25 percent.
