Self-nominations sought for vacant Milwaukee County seat on Board of Governors

Aug. 5, 2009 – The recent election of attorney Jim Brennan to serve as chair of the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors has created a vacancy in Milwaukee County’s 12-member delegation to the Board of Governors. Interested members from Milwaukee County are encouraged to submit their names and a statement of interest for consideration to Jan Marks no later than Sept. 1. A petition signed by 10 active members from the district, which is normally part of the election process for governors, is not required in this circumstance. Self-nominations will be reviewed by members of the Milwaukee caucus and potential candidates may be asked to meet with the delegation prior to the next Board of Governors meeting on Sept. 11. The final selection will be made by the full board at that meeting.

The 52-member Board of Governors manages and directs the affairs of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Thirty-five members are elected from the 16 State Bar districts. Each is a single-member district except for Milwaukee County, which has 12 members, Dane County which has seven members, and Waukesha County which has three members.
