Commission seeks applicants for federal judgeships

The Federal Nominating Commission that reviews applicants to fill
vacancies for federal judgeships and U.S. attorneys was fully appointed
on Aug. 3. The commission is charged with offering four to six
recommendations to Wisconsin's U.S. senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold
for state vacancies. The senators will forward their recommendations to
President Bush who will make the appointments. There are vacancies on
the bench for the newly created District Court in Green Bay and for U.S.
attorneys in both the Eastern and Western districts.
The Commission, which has been making recommendations to Wisconsin's
U.S. senators since 1979, will screen applicants and interview potential
candidates before submitting its final recommendations to senators Kohl
and Feingold.
Marquette Law School Dean Howard Eisenberg will chair the commission
for Eastern District vacancies, and U.W. Law School Dean Ken Davis for
Western District vacancies.
Commission members include: attorneys James M. Brennan, Stephen M.
Glynn, Richard W. Graber, James H. Hall Jr, and John P. Savage of
Milwaukee; Gregory B. Conway of Green Bay; William T. Curran of Mauston;
Charles G. Curtis of Madison; John W. Knuteson of Racine; and Former
Congressman Mark Neumann of Hartland.
Requests for applications must be received by August 24. Applications
are due by 5 p.m., Sept. 4. All inquiries and correspondence regarding
