Annual diversity program focuses on networking, rainmaking, and
retention
The State Bar's Diversity Outreach Committee, in collaboration with
the Wisconsin Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, will
present the 2006 Annual Diversity Counsel Program, The Cents and
Sensibility of Diversity — Networking, Rainmaking, and Retention
in the Legal Profession, on June 7 in Milwaukee. A
complimentary buffet breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. The
program begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 12:05 p.m.
"Through local and national experts, the program will identify
specific trends, issues and challenges of diversity in the legal
profession," says Bruce Lindl, committee vice chair and program chair.
"Speakers and panelists will provide proven, practical ideas for
organizations to make measurable progress in diversity and strategies
for attorneys to progress in their legal careers."
The program will feature two guest speakers. Laurie Robinson,
assistant general counsel, Labor and Employment Group, CBS Broadcasting,
New York, will present "When Spider Webs Unite: Strategies for Effective
Networking." Bonnie Mayfield, partner, Dykema Gossett, Michigan, will
present "Rainmaking Despite the Crash, Burn, and Micro Inequities."
Both speakers will join attorney Jorge Gomez, Wisconsin Office of the
Commissioner of Insurance, and O. Ricardo Pimentel, editorial page
editor, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, in a panel discussion on
strategies to build and support a diverse legal workforce. Dr. Amy L.
Batiste, Ed.D., Executive Director and Chief, IDEAList Institute for
Diversity Education & Leadership (IDEAL), U.W. Milwaukee, will serve
as the moderator.
The Diversity Counsel Program's objective is to promote the benefits
of a diverse legal workforce through educational initiatives and to
increase legal service opportunities by providing tools and strategies
that assist minority attorneys in meeting the challenges in today's
competitive legal marketplace.
