Search underway for new executive director
December 1, 1999
State Bar President Leonard Loeb has appointed a 22-member search
committee, chaired by Past President Franklyn Gimbel of Milwaukee, to
conduct a nationwide search for an executive director of the State Bar.
Stephen L. Smay, executive director of the State Bar for more than 20
years, resigned in August.
The committee has refined the position description and created a job
profile, both of which were approved by the Board of Governors at its
Nov. 12 meeting.
At the board's direction, the committee sought proposals from
executive search firms nationwide with experience in recruiting key
staff for member associations and not-for-profit entities. After
extensive review of the proposals, and interviews with representatives
from the leading firms, the committee contracted with Gielow Associates
Inc. of Milwaukee to assist in the search for a new executive
director.
The executive director search committee seeks member input on
candidate qualifications and the role of the executive director. Send
signed correspondence to Gimbel or any committee member at the following
