The State Bar of Wisconsin is seeking nominations for two judicial
awards: Judge of the Year and Lifetime Jurist Achievement. The Bench Bar
Committee will review all nominations, which must be received by October
25, 1999.
The 1999 Judge of the Year Award, presented at the State Bar
Midwinter Convention in January 2000, will recognize a judge who has
exceeded the call of judicial office and who has improved the judicial
system in some fashion during the past year. This individual should be a
judge who shows leadership in advancing the quality of justice, judicial
education, or innovative programs; who is an example of high ideals,
personal character and judicial competence; and who is actively involved
in community efforts that enhance the judicial system. Judge Harold V.
Froehlich was recognized as the 1998 Judge of the Year.
The 1999 Jurist Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented at the
State Bar Annual Convention in June 2000. The committee is looking for a
jurist who has at least 12 years of experience as a trial judge. The
award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding,
long-term judicial service during his or her years as a sitting trial
judge. Judge Patrick Sheedy and Judge Peter Pappas were co-recipients of
the 1998 Lifetime Jurist Achievement Award.
