LegalExplorer and Life Planning win NABE awards
Nov. 6, 2001
The State Bar of Wisconsin will receive two Luminary Awards for
Excellence in Web Sites and Excellence in Public Relations in the
15,000-plus member category at the National Association of Bar
Executives (NABE) meeting in January. The Luminary Awards program is
sponsored by the NABE Communications Section and West Group.
LegalExplorer, the State
Bar's consumer Web site, launched in July 2000, will receive the
Excellence in Web Sites award. LegalExplorer, located at
www.legalexplorer.com, offers the public quick and convenient access to
a wealth of information helpful in understanding and working with the
legal system. The site also features an online lawyer referral
service.
"This is the kind of online product I'd expect from the State Bar of
Wisconsin," said one of the judges. "Stylish, easy to navigate, content
rich - any bar association that wants to create a consumer/public info
site should look here to see how it's done."
Life Planning
2000, which will receive the Excellence in Public Relations award,
was a statewide public education campaign to encourage adults to discuss
and legally document their preferences for future medical care before
personal health crises arise. The State Bar and nearly 50 local bar
associations involving more than 150 attorneys, teamed up with health
professionals to carry out this public service initiative. The project
also received a NABE 2001 Lexis Community and Educational Outreach award
in August, which is given for outstanding achievement/commitment to
public outreach.
"This was an outstanding entry," one of the judges said. "I was very
impressed by the cooperation of the Wisconsin Health & Hospital
Association and the State Medical Society of Wisconsin. The positive
impact of this coordinated effort will be far reaching and is the best
one can hope for from a PR campaign."
The awards will be presented on Jan. 29 at the NABE meeting in
Philadelphia.
