September 4, 2001 was the deadline for submitting
applications to the Federal Nominating Commission to fill vacancies for
the newly created District Court in Green Bay for Eastern District of
Wisconsin, as well as the U.S. Attorney in the Eastern and Western
Districts of Wisconsin.
The Federal Nominating Commission is charged with offering four to
six recommendations to Wisconsin's Senators for the three vacancies in
the state. The Commission will screen applicants and interview potential
candidates before submitting its final recommendations to Senators Kohl
and Feingold on October 1, 2001.
The Commission is chaired by Marquette Law School Dean Howard
Eisenberg for vacancies in the Eastern District, and UW Law School Dean
Ken Davis for vacancies in the Western District. The Federal Nominating
Commission has been making recommendations to Wisconsin's U.S. Senators
since 1979.
