    Kelli Thompson, Marquette 1996, has been elected to the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) board. She is the deputy state public defender for the State Public Defender (SPD). Mike Tobin, Texas 1977, has been elected to the NLADA defender policy group. He is the SPD’s trial division director.

    Authors, Speakers

    Adam Chase Korbitz, U.W. 1993, presented his paper “The Limits of Metalaw and the Need for Further Elaboration” at the 39th International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) Symposium on the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence in Prague in September and at the 2nd IAA Symposium on Searching for Life Signatures in October in the United Kingdom. He also has been appointed to the post-detection task group of the IAA SETI permanent study group. He is a government relations coordinator with the State Bar.

    John Schulze, Marquette 2004, presented “Identifying and Overcoming Legal Hurdles to Vegetation Management” at the North American Transmission Forum’s vegetation management workshop in Michigan in September. He is with American Transmission Co. LLC, Waukesha.

    Eva M.   Soeka Christine   Harris Taylor

    Eva M. Soeka, Marquette 1977, and Christine Harris Taylor, Valparaiso 1988, presented a seminar in Maryland on conflict prevention and management to 125 international project managers. Soeka is with the Marquette University Center for Dispute Resolution. Taylor is a sole practitioner in Milwaukee.

    Carlton D. Stansbury, Iowa 1990 with distinction, presented “Lessons Learned from Drafting the Uniform Collaborative Law Act” to the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals annual meeting in Washington, D.C. in October. He practices family law and is a shareholder with Burbach & Stansbury S.C., Milwaukee.

    Dean R.   DietrichDean R. Dietrich, Marquette 1977, has received the John L. Cook Memorial Award from the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce, in recognition of his years of service to Wausau-area residents. He is a shareholder focusing on employer-side labor and employment law with Ruder Ware LLSC, Wausau.

    Lisa M.   O'DonnellLisa M. O’Donnell, Iowa 2003 with distinction, has become a Black Duck Certified Legal Professional, enabling her to help clients understand open-source-software audits. She is cochair of the software, technology, and licensing team and a member of the product distribution and franchise legal team in the Milwaukee office of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c.

    The Hon. Robert J. Parins, U.W. 1942, was the inaugural recipient of the Brown County Bar Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, in honor of his exemplary legal career and many contributions to the community. He is retired from the bench.

    Quarles & Brady LLP has received a 2010 Beacon of Justice Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association, in recognition of the firm’s significant contribution to pro bono representation in the area of immigration law.

    Antonio M.   Trillo Joseph W.   Voiland

    Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c., Milwaukee, has named Antonio M. Trillo, U.W. 2007, and Joseph W. Voiland, Marquette 2002 with honors, as its 2010 Pro Bono Attorneys of the Year. Trillo is with the litigation practice and represents food and consumer goods manufacturers. Voiland is with the litigation and employee benefits practices and concentrates on financial services litigation, including ERISA and actuarial malpractice matters.

    G. Lane   WareG. Lane Ware, U.W. 1965, received the Wisconsin Outstanding Service Award from the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, in recognition of his decades of work with professional and civic organizations. He concentrates on business and securities law with Ruder Ware LLSC, Wausau.
