service corporation as Gordon K. Aaron & Associates
S.C., at 3900 W. Brown Deer Rd., Suite J, Milwaukee. He
concentrates on civil litigation in Midwest federal courts and on
circuit court proceedings statewide. He will continue his interest in
legal malpractice cases on behalf of claimants.

Carl T. Bahnson, Drake 1979, formerly assistant

Thomas J. Basting Sr., U.W. 1962, has been elected
as a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers. Basting, a
partner in the Janesville law firm of Brennan, Steil, Basting &
MacDougall, is a Fellow also of the American College of Trial Lawyers,
chair of the State Bar's Professional Ethics Committee, and a member of
the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers.
Melita M. Biese, Marquette 1980, was the Wisconsin
representative for the ATLA Women's Caucus Lobby Days held in
Washington, D.C., in May. Trial lawyers from each state met with their
representatives and senators to discuss topics of interest, including
tobacco industry litigation and regulation, class actions damage caps,
and limitations of punitive damages.
David L. Borowski, Marquette 1991, has been
appointed a part-time court commissioner for the City of Milwaukee
Municipal Court. He will continue his private practice with an emphasis
on personal injury, civil litigation, bankruptcy, and criminal and
traffic matters.
James F. Boyle, Marquette 1984, a patent attorney
and partner in Nilles & Nilles, Milwaukee, recently received one of
the 1998 Marquette University College of Engineering Alumni Service
Awards. A 1981 graduate of the College of Engineering, Boyle
concentrates in technology-related legal areas.
Michael P. Brodsky, U.W. 1996, who was a sole
practitioner in Racine, has joined the Snohomish County Public Defender
office in Everett, Wash.
Thomas J. Brunner, U.W. 1993, has become a
shareholder in the law firm of Hess, Dexter, Reinertson &
Brunner S.C., Wausau. He has been with the firm since January
1994 and practices in business planning, acquisitions and sales,
taxation, real estate, and municipal law.
Mary E. Burns has received the Wisconsin Association
of Legal Secretaries 1998 Award of Excellence. A member of the legal
secretaries association for 12 years, Burns is an administrative
assistant for the Milwaukee Brewers in their human resources and law
department.
John T. Coughlin, Marquette 1968, was elected chair
of the board of PJM Interconnection LLC (Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
Maryland Interconnection Utility). PJM is the largest centrally
dispatched electric utility in North America and the third largest in
the world. Coughlin recently moved his utility and labor relations
mediation/arbitration practice from Madison to San Diego, Calif.
Joseph E. Dannecker, Yale 1988, has joined Miller,
Simon, McGinn & Clark S.C., Milwaukee. He practices environmental
law, providing referral and special counsel services to firms,
businesses, and associations, and is cochair of the Milwaukee Bar
Association's Environmental Law Section.
Chief Judge Richard A. Posner announces that Julie
Fenton, Iowa, has become the new senior staff attorney for the
U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Gregg M. Formella, U.W. 1990, has accepted a
position in the legal department of American Airlines, practicing
general corporate law focusing in the areas of U.S. and Latin American
labor and employment law. He formerly practiced with Quarles &
Brady.
Douglas O. Smith, Marquette 1983, and Paul
D. Langer, U.W. 1982, have formed General Counsel
S.C., Brookfield. The firm provides corporate counsel services
to in-house law departments and practices in construction and general
business law. Smith formerly was group counsel at Johnson Controls Inc.,
while Langer was general counsel at Langer Roofing & Sheet Metal

Richard C. Glesner, U.W. 1966, Milwaukee, has become
a director to the Wisconsin Road Builders Association (WRBA). The WRBA
is an association of road builders and related suppliers and
contractors. Glesner is a partner in the Madison office of Michael, Best
& Friedrich, where he practices business, construction, real estate,
and banking law.
Craig J. Hanson, Northwestern 1981, previously a
managing attorney with Legal Services of Northeastern Wisconsin, has
established a practice concentrating in bankruptcy and real estate in
Chicago. He is of counsel with Christensen & Ehret.
The law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson has
expanded its Brookfield office to meet an increased need for legal
services in Waukesha County. Jeffrey J. Liotta,
Marquette 1987, and Michael A. Delzer, Marquette 1996,
have transferred from the firm's Milwaukee office to join five attorneys
in the Brookfield office. Liotta practices in mergers and acquisitions,
business transactions, commercial litigation, and fidelity and surety.
Delzer practices in real estate and business law.
Michael C. Hurt, McGeorge School of Law 1973, has
joined the Menomonee Falls office of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. as of
counsel. He formerly was the principal of the law firm of Michael C.
Hurt S.C. Hurt will continue his practice in corporate law, estate
planning, civil litigation, and real estate law.
Thomas J. King, Akron 1977, has terminated his
private practice of law. He formerly was associated with the law firm of
Williams, Schultz, King & Edelstein in Oshkosh.
Todd R. Korb, U.W. 1996, formerly an associate of
Parke, O'Flaherty Ltd., La Crosse, has joined the Law Offices of Thomas
M. Jacobson S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate concentrating in personal

Warren P. Kraft, Marquette 1982, has been appointed
recorder for the Land Use and Zoning Section of the International
Municipal Lawyers Association. The city attorney for Oshkosh, Kraft is
the immediate past-president of the Municipal Attorneys Institute of the
League of Wisconsin Municipalities.
Renée Martin, U.W. 1981, has become senior vice
president and general counsel of Focal Communications Corp., in the
Chicago corporate headquarters. Martin had been vice president and
general counsel of Ameritech's Small Business Services division.
Scott K. McCarthy, Nebraska 1991, has become a
partner in Roethe, Krohn & Pope. McCarthy joined the law firm in
1991, was elected Rock County D.A. in 1994, and returned to the firm as
an associate in 1997. The firm will be known as Roethe, Krohn,
Pope & McCarthy. McCarthy concentrates in civil and
criminal trials including personal injury, negligence, and business law
cases.
Robert E. Meldman, Marquette 1962, a tax attorney
and shareholder at Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren, Norris &
Rieselbach S.C., Milwaukee, and Michael S. Schadewald,
a tax professor at the U.W.-Milwaukee, have written A Practical
Guide to U.S. Taxation of International Transactions (Second
Edition). The second edition, copublished by Kluwer Law
International and CCH Inc., has been completely updated to reflect the
sweeping changes enacted in 1997. Meldman also recently coauthored
Federal Taxation Practice and Procedure (Fifth Edition) with
Richard J. Sideman, former trial attorney with the U.S. Department of
Justice, Tax Division of Sideman & Bancroft, San Francisco, Calif.

Erik G. Milito, Marquette 1995, captain, U.S. Army
Judge Advocate General's Corps, recently finished a two-year assignment
with the 25th Infantry Division and U.S. Army, Hawaii. While in Hawaii,
he worked in administrative and family law, and served as the legal
advisor and prosecutor for the 2nd Infantry Warrior Brigade. He received
two Army commendation medals for meritorious service during his tour in
Hawaii. He currently is a criminal defense counsel for U.S. Forces
Korea, serving at Camp Humphreys, Korea, for a one-year tour.
After returning from sabbatical in Australia, Dennis R.
Nolan, Harvard 1970, published three books: The National
Academy of Arbitrators: Fifty Years in the World of Work (BNA 1997,
with Gladys Gruenberg and Joyce Najita); The Australasian Labour Law
Reforms: Australia and New Zealand at the End of the Twentieth
Century (Sydney, New South Wales: The Federation Press, 1998); and
Labor and Employment Arbitration in a Nutshell (West Group,
1998).
Kathy L. Nusslock, Marquette 1985 magna cum laude,
has joined Davis & Kuelthau S.C. as a shareholder, providing
representation on litigation involving admiralty and maritime law,
commercial law, labor and employment, plaintiff's personal injury, and
probate. She previously practiced as a litigator for 13 years at Cook
& Franke S.C., Milwaukee.
Bruce A. Olson, Marquette 1981, of Olson - Nesemann,

MaryNell Regan, Marquette 1994, has become
associated with Wessels & Pautsch P.C., Milwaukee, practicing
throughout the country representing employers in labor and employment
law matters. She formerly was associated with Crivello, Carlson,
Mentkowski, Steeves S.C., Milwaukee.
Russell E. Ryba, a recently elected partner in the
Milwaukee office of Foley & Lardner, graduated in 1989 from Duke
University School of Law, not Drake as previously published.
Francis J. Sailer, Marquette 1978, a partner in the
250-lawyer Washington, D.C. firm, Dickstein, Shapiro, Morin &
Oshinsky, was selected recently for inclusion in the Law Business
Research publication, An International Who's Who of Trade and
Customs Lawyers. Sailer, who is a former deputy assistant secretary
of commerce for import investigations, has advised clients in
antidumping cases in North America, Europe, and several southeast Asian
countries. He currently is a panelist on a NAFTA Chapter 19 panel
reviewing a U.S. dumping determination against Mexican merchandise.
Richard J. Steinberg, Marquette 1958, has been
elected for a 13th two-year term as municipal judge for the City of
Brookfield. Judge Steinberg is a past president of the Wisconsin
Municipal Judges Association and presently is the association's
legislative trustee.
Robert F. Sullivan, U.W. 1998, has joined the New
Berlin office of Schober & Schober S.C., as an associate emphasizing
corporate and business transactions and real estate law.
David M. Wollenziehn, U.W. 1983, has been admitted
to the State Bar of California.
North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge James A. Wynn
Jr., Marquette 1979, will participate in a "Working
Conversation on Genes as Property in the American Law Tradition" at Cape
Cod this summer. The discussion group includes 20 judges and science and
legal advisors. The theme of the discussion is "Whose Genome Is It
Anyway?/How May Disputes Over Gene Ownership Appear in the 21st Century
Courts?"
