    New Hires, Promotions, Partners

    Greg C. Anderson, U.W. 1985, has accepted the position of Director of Career Opportunities and Development at Northern Illinois University College of Law. As director, he will be in charge of career services, public interest activities, and fundraising. He has been an adjunct faculty member at the College of Law since 1994. Prior to accepting this position, he was president/counsel of American Title Guaranty, Inc.

    Orlando J. Cabrera, U.W. 1989, has joined the Miami, Fla., office of Holland & Knight as a partner practicing real estate, securities, and corporate law. He previously was a partner with Ruden, McCloskey, Smith, Shuster & Russell P.A.

    Dawn Caldart, Marquette 2001, has joined Otjen, Van Ert, Lieb & Weir S.C., as an associate in the Milwaukee office practicing worker's compensation law.

    Todd M. Cleary, Cornell 1999, has joined Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Milwaukee, on the employee benefits team.

    Kristin Huotari, U.W. 1995 cum laude, has joined the State Bar of Wisconsin in the CLE books department as an editor. She previously was with Winner, Wixson & Pernitz, Madison.

    Michael P. Konz, Marquette 1988, has joined Gabert, Williams, Konz & Lawrynk, Appleton. He continues to emphasize his practice on insurance defense, personal injury, and civil litigation.

    Chad W. Koplien, Marquette 1997 with distinction, has joined Sigman, Janssen, Stack, Wenning, Sewall & Pitz, Appleton. He will practice commercial and corporate law, focusing on business litigation, banking and financing transactions, and real estate. Koplien previously was associated with Terschan, Steinle & Ness, Milwaukee.

    Aaron E. Kornblum, U.W. 1996, has joined Graham & Dunn PC, Seattle, Wash., as a litigation associate on the banking and financial institutions team. He previously served as a U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate at bases in Wyoming and Turkey.

    Mary H. Leahy, Georgetown 1982, has joined Journal Communications, Milwaukee, as vice president and general counsel-business. Leahy formerly was with GE Medical Systems and Miller Brewing Co., Milwaukee.

    Russell M. Lein, U.W. 1984, has joined North Shore Drilling Inc., Grafton, as president. He is CEO of Milwaukee Tire Co. L.L.C. and of counsel with Hale & Wagner S.C., Milwaukee. Lein previously was general counsel at Poblocki Paving Corp.

    Angela Malzahn, Marquette 1998, has joined Foley & Lardner, Milwaukee, as an associate in the business law depart-ment, focusing on securities and public companies, and involved in mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance.

    Matthew J. Fleming, U.W. 1998; Barbara A. Hayden, Hamline 1984; Suzanne Lee, Loyola 1995; and Dean T. Stange, U.W. 1993, have joined Murphy & Desmond S.C., Madison, as associates.
    Fleming, practicing primarily municipal, land use, real estate, and employment law, previously was a La Crosse assistant city attorney. Hayden, practicing primarily divorce, child custody and placement, child support, and adoptions law, previously practiced in Marshfield and Superior.     Lisa C. Paul, Marquette 1993, has become a partner in Croen & Barr LLP, Milwaukee. Paul is a trial attorney, and concentrates her practice in civil litigation and employment law, representing employers and employees.

    John T. Payette, U.W. 1995, has joined Brennan, Steil, Basting & MacDougall S.C., Janesville, practicing in civil litigation, municipal and insurance defense, and employment discrim-ination. He previously practiced in Madison.

    William J. Peltin, U.W. 1987, has joined Fox, Hefter, Swibel, Levin & Carroll, Chicago, as a partner practicing in real estate, finance, and corporate law. He previously was general counsel and executive vice president of Ridge Realty Group LLC, Barrington, Ill.

    Charles J. Stansberry Jr., Marquette 2001, has joined Schober Schober & Mitchell in the Hartland office, advising on estate planning, general corporate law, real estate, and probate issues.

    Lisa K. Sukola, William Mitchell 1999; Paige M. Fitzgerald, William Mitchell 2000; and Daniel G.     William L. Norine, Boston College 1986 cum laude, has merged his litigation practice with that of Stephenson & Sanford PLC in Minneapolis. Prior to joining Stephenson & Sanford, he practiced in Grantsburg, Wis., with Anderson & Norine, Robins Kaplan Miller & Ciresi; and Lord Day and Lord, New York.     Mark R. Raddatz, Marquette 1997, has opened the Raddatz Law Firm PLLC, Washington, D.C., and at www.creditors-law.com. The firm emphasizes mortgage banking compliance and licensing, retail and commercial collections, and collections litigation. Raddatz formerly was an associate with Goodwin Procter LLP, Washington, D.C., and Bass & Moglowsky S.C., Milwaukee.

    Techmeier & Van Grunsven S.C. has become The Techmeier McCormick Group S.C., located at 411 E. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee. The firm focuses in personal injury.

    Appointments, Elections

    Gregory S. Bonney, Hamline 1981, was appointed to an initial three-year term on the Special Investigative Panel of the lawyer regulation system, commencing July 1, 2001, and expiring Sept. 30, 2004.

    Michael J. Gratz, U.W. 1994, has been elected to serve another term as clerk for the New Berlin School Board. Gratz, founding partner in Boyle, Fredrickson, Newholm, Stein & Gratz S.C., Milwaukee, counsels clients regarding patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, and related licensing and litigation.

    Laurie Levin, U.W. 1981, with Baker & Hostetler LLP, Orlando, Fla., was elected to the executive council of the Florida Bar's Health Law Section for a three-year term. She also was reappointed chair of the managed care/payors/IDS division of the substantive law committee of the health law section.

    Steven M. Press, U.W. 1988, has been named president of the East Downtown Council, a Minneapolis business and professional association. He is with Press Law Office, which represents clients in state and federal criminal defense, estate planning, collections, and family law.

    Peggy L. Podell, Marquette 1986, has been elected secretary of the American Bar Association (ABA) Family Law Section. She previously chaired the State Bar of Wisconsin's Family Law Section and was a member of the ABA Family Law Section Council. She is a partner with the Law Offices of Podell & Podell, Milwaukee.

    William Sturm, Marquette 1966, was elected president of the board of governors of the Commercial Law League of America. Sturm, with Rausch, Sturm, Israel & Hornik S.C., Milwaukee, practices in creditors' rights. He is a member of the faculty committee of the American Board of Certification, which is accredited by the ABA to certify attorneys as specialists in creditors' rights, business bankruptcy, and consumer bankruptcy.

    The Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers has elected these officers: president - Ann T. Bowe, Milwaukee; president-elect - Waring R. Fincke, West Bend; vice president - John A.     Authors, Speakers

    Lawrence G. Albrecht, Valparaiso 1973, recently lectured at the Ahrens Chair advanced torts seminar at Washburn University, published an article in the Washburn Law Journal on human rights remedies for governmental child abuse, published a double review of human rights books in the Wisconsin International Law Journal, and was a commentator for the ABA/CEELI on the draft Slovak Republic act on equal treatment. Albrecht is a shareholder with First, Blondis, Albrecht, Bangert & Novotnak s.c., Milwaukee.

    Ronald R. Hofer, Marquette 1981, served on the faculty of the U.S. Supreme Court Summer Institute 2001 at The National Judicial College in Reno, Nev., along with Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Justice Stephen G. Breyer.

    Susan B. Eisenhauer, U.W. 1982, has been admitted as a 2001 Fellow of the Indiana Bar Foundation. Fellows are Bar members recognized for professional, public, and private careers that have demonstrated outstanding legal ability and devotion to the welfare of their communities, state, and nation, as well as advancement of the legal profession. Eisenhauer is the executive director of the Indiana Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program, an independent agency of the Indiana Supreme Court offering confidential assistance to judges, lawyers, and law students.

    Richard Burns, Michigan 1971, and John Kelly, Minnesota 1974, both with the Hanft Fride Law Firm, Duluth, Minn., were selected as "super lawyers" - the top 5 percent of Minnesota's attorneys. The recognition is based on more than 5,000 votes from Minnesota attorneys.

    Thomas K. Mullins, Marquette 1989 cum laude, a shareholder in Kravit, Gass, Hovel & Leitner S.C., Milwaukee, has achieved board certification as a civil trial advocate through the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mullins practices in personal injury, insurance, and bad faith litigation.

    Allen N. Rieselbach, Harvard 1956, has been awarded the 2001 Steimke Award, which recognizes outstanding dedication to the performing arts and the United Performing Arts Fund. Rieselbach, of Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren, Norris & Rieselbach S.C., Milwaukee, was recognized for his work with the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, and his service on the board of directors and as president of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

    Barry C. Slagle, Indiana U.-Bloomington 1978, received a certificate in alternative dispute resolution from Marquette University graduate school. The degree concentrates research in negotiation, mediation, and theories of dispute resolution, including restorative justice. Slagle is an assistant state public defender, Milwaukee Trial Division, homicide practice group.

    Tony Welhouse, U.W. 1977, of Welhouse Law Office, Appleton, has been included in the 2001-2002 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, published by Woodward/White Inc. He is distinguished for excellence in worker's compensation practice.
