Louise Trubek, Yale 1960, received the 2000 Marygold
Melli Achievement Award.
Trubek
is clinical director and senior attorney for the Center for Public
Representation, and a clinical professor in the U.W. Law School.
Trubek returned to Madison from Connecticut in 1973 with
the vision of starting a public interest law firm that would represent
clients who could not afford representation, and would teach law
students about representing clients at governmental hearings. Over the
last 25 years, the Center has investigated the practice of red-lining in
mortgage loans and insurance, promoted the rights of women and the poor
in health care and welfare, and taken a leadership role in creating the
Citizen's Utility Board. The Center also has been part of writing a
patient's bill of rights, providing assistance to pro se litigants in
family court, and providing nonprofit groups access to technology.
Trubek also has received the Human Rights Award by the
Association of Trial Lawyers, 1987 and 1994, and was named as one of the
10 people in Wisconsin who made a difference in the past decade by The
Milwaukee Journal.
The Marygold Melli Achievement Award was established by
the Legal Association for Women to honor Professor Melli, one of the
first women law professors in Wisconsin, upon her retirement from the
law school.

Faith Lleva Anderson, Marquette 1988, has been
promoted to vice president and general counsel for American Airlines
Federal Credit Union, Ft. Worth, Texas. She formerly was director of
legal and compliance.
Shunette Campbell, U.W. 1996, Chris R.
Larsen, Valparaiso 1985, and William H.
Ramsey, U.W. 1998, have joined the Wisconsin Attorney General's
office. Campbell was with the State Office of the Public Defender and at
the Department of Health and Family Services as a client rights
specialist. She is assigned to the Criminal Appeals Unit.
Larsen previously was an assistant U.S. attorney in Milwaukee and a
law clerk to the Hon. John L. Coffey, a circuit judge with the Seventh
Circuit Court of Appeals. He is assigned to the Criminal Appeals
Unit.
Ramsey previously was with Previant, Goldberg, Uelmen, Gratz, Miller
& Brueggeman S.C., practicing in labor and employment law. He is
assigned to the Employment Litigation Unit.
William S. Cole, U.W. 1990, has become a shareholder
in Reuter & Whitish S.C., Madison, continuing his practice in civil
litigation, real estate, appeals, and municipal law. The firm is now
Reuter, Whitish & Cole S.C.
Gregory J. Cook, Marquette 1976, a shareholder in
Kasdorf, Lewis & Swietlik, has relocated to the firm's Wausau
office, where he'll continue practicing in personal injury
litigation.
Arnold D. Fielkow, U.W. 1981, has joined the New
Orleans Saints as director of administration, overseeing all aspects of
administration, marketing, finance, governmental affairs, and public
relations. Fielkow formerly was with the Southern League of Professional
Baseball Clubs and the Continental Basketball Association.
Cynthia Haney Flynn, Cooley 1989, has joined Alpert
& Fellows LLP, Manitowoc, focusing on personal injury and family law
litigation. She previously was with Kaftan, Van Egeren & Gilson.
Laura A. Guy, U.W. 1986, has joined Schaper, Benz
& Wise Investment Counsel Inc., Neenah, as vice president and
managing director. Guy previously was with Associated Trust Company
N.A.
Linda Harfst, U.W. 1992, has become a partner in
Cullen, Weston, Pines & Bach, Madison. She's been with the firm
since 1991, practicing in employment law.

Stephen W. Hayes, Illinois 1969, has joined the
Schroeder Group S.C., Waukesha. He is a member of the American Academy
of Adoption Attorneys and serves on its Board of Trustees. Hayes also
practices in will contests and municipal tax law. He formerly was with

Geraldo J. Hernandez, Marquette 1993, has been named
corporate counsel for Wal-Mart Puerto Rico Inc., overseeing Wal-Mart's
legal department in Puerto Rico. Hernandez formerly was with William
Estrella Law Offices, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Gonzalez, Saggio,
Birdsall & Harlan, Milwaukee.
Stephen J. McManus, Arizona 1993, has joined Halling
& Cayo S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate practicing in worker's
compensation and civil litigation. McManus previously was with the U.S.
Air Force Judge Advocate General's department and has taught aviation
law at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Mike Jones, Marquette 1984, has been made vice
president-deputy general counsel of Miller Brewing Co., Milwaukee. Jones
previously was associate general counsel and assistant secretary at
Miller. Karen Ripley, U.W. 1981, has been named associate general
counsel and previously was senior assistant general counsel with the
company. Kristin Kaplan Wolfe, Marquette 1992, has been named assistant
general counsel for Miller. She previously was senior counsel with the
company.
Richard A. Crespo, U.W. 1998, and Jennifer M.
Krueger, U.W. 2000, have joined Murphy & Desmond S.C., Madison, as
associates. Crespo will practice primarily in health law, regulatory
compliance, business, and commercial transactions. Crespo previously was
a sole practitioner. Krueger will practice primarily in immigration,
family law, taxation, and business law.

Michael R. Miller, Chicago 1993, a shareholder in

Ralph Johnson, Capital 1986, has been elected
president and Cynthia Tuczynski, U.W. 1981, has been
elected secretary of AFSCME Local 3357, the organization that represents
more than 160 UAW legal services attorneys nationwide. Both are with UAW
Legal Services, Janesville.
Martin J. Greenberg, Marquette 1971, has been
elected chair of the board of the National Sports Law Institute at
Marquette University Law School. Greenberg founded the institute in
1989. He also has been elected to the executive committee of the
Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation (Badger State Games) and is
chair of the selection committee for the Wisconsin Hall of Fame.
Stephen Lesavich, Ph.D., U.W. 1995, has been elected
senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers
(IEEE), a grade that reflects significant professional and technical
achievements. Lesavich is a partner in McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert &
Berghoiff, Chicago, practicing in intellectual property issues,
including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and litigation relating to
software and the Internet.
Joseph A. Pickart, Iowa 1990, a partner of Michael
Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee, was appointed to the legal
committee of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation. Pickart
practices in taxation with specific emphasis on state and local matters
and contested tax matters.
William Sturm, Marquette 1996, of Rausch, Sturm,
Israel & Hornik S.C., Milwaukee, was elected president-elect of the
board of governors of the Commercial Law League of America. Sturm
practices in creditors' rights.
The Commercial Law League was founded in 1895 for bankruptcy and
commercial law professionals.
Awards, Degrees, Honors
Brooke J. Billick, Iowa 1979, received the Gwen
Jackson Community Service Award 2000 from the United Way of Greater
Milwaukee. He has been a United Way volunteer since 1981 and is
currently vice chair of the organization's basic needs impact area. He
is vice president and securities counsel for Marshall & Ilsley Trust
and M&I Investment Management Corp., Milwaukee.
Burneatta Bridge, Wisconsin Deputy Attorney General,
received the President's Award from the National Association of
Attorneys General for her leadership in creating a multistate best
practice protocol that provides guidance to states in multistate
investigations and litigation.

Peppard
|
Terry F. Peppard, U.W. 1973, was chosen as the
Central and East European Law Initiative's (CEELI) commercial law
liaison to Romania and as a country liaison. As Wisconsin's first
country liaison, he will coordinate the work of all CEELI volunteers in
Romania and cooperate with other programs and projects sponsored by the
European Union (EU). Peppard will spend one year in Romania.
CEELI is one of the ABA's greatest successes in advancing the rule of
law in the world. Since 1990, CEELI - focusing on judicial, legal
education, and legal profession reform, as well as legislative drafting
- has provided technical legal assistance in 24 countries in central and
east Europe and the former republics of the Soviet Union. Program goals
include assisting the host country in their legal system reform efforts
and in gaining admission to the EU.
Donald A. Schoenfeld, Marquette 1974, a partner with
Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee, received the Volunteer
Lawyers Project Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney Award for his generous
commitment to the legal needs of low-income clients. He also received
the award in 1995 and has served as a volunteer lawyer for individuals
and organizations combating racism and anti-Semitism, represented
low-income clients on a no-fee basis, and assisted student organizations
in challenging unfair activity fee allotments.
John J. Slein, Hamline 1984, has been certified by
the National Board of Trial Advocacy as a certified civil trial
advocate. Slein is a shareholder in Hale & Wagner S.C., Milwaukee,
practicing in personal injury, real estate agent negligence, and
insurance agent negligence.
