Ellen A. Abbott, U.W. 1984, has opened a Minneapolis solo practice
emphasizing alternative dispute resolution and family law matters. She is
a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota Rules of General Practice
for all nine alternative dispute resolution rosters as approved by the Minnesota
Supreme Court. Abbott formerly practiced family law and served as a special
assistant attorney general and acting executive director of the Dallas Civil
Liberties Union in Texas, and was a referee and friend of the court in Michigan.
Michelle Marie Anderson, Marquette 1997, has joined Cornwall,
Rhiel & Yamahiro, Milwaukee, as an associate focusing primarily on criminal
defense and family law.
William C. Bertrand Jr., U.W. 1989, has joined Pharmacia &
Upjohn in Kalamazoo, Mich., as litigation counsel. He formerly was associate
general counsel at Jackson National Life Insurance Co. in Lansing, Mich.
Christopher J. Brown, U.W. 1986, has been assigned for one year
by Assurance-foreningen Gard, Norway, where he is a director, to start a
new subsidiary, Gard Asia (HK) Ltd. in Hong Kong, Special Administrative
Region, Peoples Republic of China. The Hong Kong office will provide marine
liability insurance advisory services to owners of oil tankers, bulk cargo
and passenger vessels who have insurance with Assur-anceforeningen Gard.
Laura Campbell Callan, Marquette 1986, has joined Solheim Billing
& Grimmer S.C., Madison, practicing commercial lending transactions,
real estate and commercial litigation.
Cook & Franke S.C., Milwaukee, has hired three new associates: Raymond
D. Jamieson, U.W. 1996, practicing litigation; Denasha A. Scott,
U.W. 1997, practicing estate planning, general corporate and business law;
and Roslyn J. Kitchen, Lewis & Clark 1992, practicing litigation.
Gwendolyn G. Connolly, Drake 1993, has joined Maier & McIlnay
Ltd., as an associate in its Milwaukee office, practicing commercial and
business litigation.
Dennis D. Costello, Marquette 1967, has been appointed by the
chair of the National Conference of State Trial Judges to serve on the Committee
for Retired and Senior Judges. Costello serves as Walworth County corporation
counsel and as a reserve judge.
Barbara B. Crabb, U.S. District Court judge for the Western District
of Wisconsin, has received the fourth annual Marygold Melli Achievement
Award. The award, sponsored by the Legal Association for Women, is conferred
annually to recognize an outstanding Wisconsin individual for significant
contributions to women in the law.
Gregory P. Crinion, U.W. 1985, formerly a partner with Jackson
& Walker L.L.P. in Houston, Texas, has formed Citti & Crinion L.L.P.
with Ross Citti in Houston. Crinion practices environmental and general
civil litigation.
Davis & Kuelthau S.C. has opened a Green Bay office at 414
E. Walnut St., Suite 240.
Thomas H. Taylor, former deputy secretary of the Wisconsin Department
of Commerce, has joined DeWitt Ross & Stevens practicing business and
employment law and litigation. Four new associate attorneys also have joined
the firm: Bryan C. Esch, U.W. 1997, emphasizing estates and trusts,
employee benefits and business law; Amy C. Heckmann, U.W. 1997, emphasizing
general litigation and family law; and Bradley C. Fulton, Marquette
1997, and M. Elizabeth Winters, U.W. 1997, emphasizing general litigation
and employment relations law.
Three State Bar members have been elected to the Dominican High School
(Whitefish Bay) board of directors. They are: F. Patrick Matthews,
Creighton 1970, an attorney with Weiss, Berzowski, Brady & Donahue;
and Sr. Mary Howard Johnstone, O.P., U.W. 1984, an attorney with
Hansen, Gagne & Foley and adjunct professor at Marquette University.
Thomas M. Domer, U.W. 1983, was reelected the board's chair. He is
an attorney with Schneidman, Myers, Dowling & Blumenfield.
Shari L. Dunn, Northwestern 1993, has left Legal Action of Wisconsin
Inc. and will work with the National Legal Aid and Defender Association
in Washington, D.C., as the senior attorney for the civil division working
on legislative advocacy and substantive law training.
Kimberly Epstein, U.W. 1996, recently began work at Kevin MacCarthy
Associates P.C. in New York City.
Ed Filer, U.W. 1991, recently was named a partner at Bollinger,
Ruberry & Garvey in Chicago. He formerly was an associate with the firm.
Two attorneys have joined Foley & Lardner's Milwaukee office: Ethan
D. Lenz, Minnesota 1996 magna cum laude, is an associate in the insurance
group, and Michelle Andreshak Lloyd, U.W. 1994 cum laude, joins the
labor and employment group.
The U.S. Harness Writers Association recently elected Milwaukee attorney
and Harness Horsemen International President Dominic H. Frinzi, Marquette
1951, to its Living Hall of Fame. Frinzi has been president of the horsemen's
group since 1982.
Kristin K. Frye, Marquette 1996, has become associate general
counsel for Empire Funding Corp., Austin, Texas, practicing state compliance,
corporate and consumer law.
Michael J. Gratz, U.W. 1994, an associate in the Milwaukee office
of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek, has been appointed cochair of the Milwaukee
Bar Association's Intellectual Property Law Section. Gratz practices patent,
trademark and copyright law.
Sheryl R. Heid, U.W. 1990, has been named a partner in Coldren
Adams, Uniontown, Penn. She practices primarily in estates, social security,
family law and civil litigation.
Gregg Herman, U.W. 1977, delivered a speech on "The Ten Commandments
of Domestic Negotiations" at the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
The presentation described strategies for negotiating settlements in highly
contested divorce cases and was adapted from a book Herman edited, The Joy
of Settlement, published earlier this year by the ABA Family Law Section.

Margaret E. Johnson, U.W. 1993 cum laude, has joined Kalijarvi,
Chuzi & Newman P.C., Washington, D.C., as an associate practicing employee-side
employment discrimination and employment law with emphasis in representing

The Kenosha County Bar Association has elected the following officers
for 1997-98: president - Edward R. Antaramian, Kenosha; president

Mark A. Klinner, U.W. 1985, a shareholder in Terwilliger, Wakeen,
Piehler & Conway S.C., Wausau, has been certified as a civil trial specialist
by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Klinner practices various types
of civil litigation including personal injury, insurance law and professional
liability.
Jerry Krause, U.W. 1984, has been appointed as an assistant professor
of criminal justice at Winona State University, Winona, Minn. He formerly
was an assistant professor of criminal justice at Ferris State University
(Michigan) and a partner/shareholder in Thompson & Knight, Dallas, Texas.
The La Crosse County Bar Association has elected these officers: president
- Theodore D. Blackey; president-elect - Charles E. Hanson;
and secretary/treasurer - Brian G. Weber, all of La Crosse.
Beverly M. Massing, Florida 1979, former assistant labor contract
manager for the Madison Metropolitan School District, has been named coordinator
of employee services for the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District.
She will head the Department of Employee Services, including the areas of
benefits, payroll, employment and labor matters.
Maureen A. McGinnity, U.W. 1982 cum laude, a partner in Foley
& Lardner's Milwaukee office, recently received the Association for
Women Lawyers' 1997 Community Service Award recognizing her longstanding
volunteer service in various community organizations, including the Task
Force on Family Violence, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee
and the Waukesha Food Pantry.
Daniel J. McNally, U.W. 1995, formerly of Quarles & Brady,
has joined Miller Brewing Co. as senior counsel practicing international
and domestic business development.
Michael Best & Friedrich LLP has named J. Donald Best, U.W.
1989, and Thomas P. Heneghan, De Paul 1989, partners in the firm's
Madison office. Best will focus primarily on intellectual property litigation

Jane Frances Pribek, Marquette 1994, has joined Wisconsin Opinions,
the statewide law weekly based in Milwaukee, as editor-in-chief. She will
assist in the publication's ongoing expansion in coverage of cases and feature
news articles. Pribek also continues to serve on the adjunct faculty of
Ottawa University in Brookfield, where she teaches business law and ethics.
Mark J. Ratke, Marquette 1980, a Milwaukee attorney practicing
divorce and family law, was recognized by the State Bar Family Law Section
for his outstanding service to the section. Ratke was elected to the section's
board of directors for two consecutive terms commencing in 1991 through
1997, and remains active with it.
The Rock County Bar Association recently elected the following officers:

Michael W. Vogel, Regent 1997, has joined Feingold, Bates &

von Briesen, Purtell & Roper S.C., Milwaukee, announces the addition
of associates Amanda G. Mott, Matthew J. Stippich and Valli Vairavan.
Mott joins the health law practice group, Stippich joins the business and
tax law practice group, and Vairavan joins the employee benefits, trust
and estate planning sections. All three are 1997 graduates of Marquette
Law School.
Donald J. Wall, Marquette 1977, has resigned as senior staff attorney
of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Wall remains with the court in
a newly created senior position. Deputy senior staff attorney Diane Dilger
Jones is acting senior staff attorney pending a search for Wall's replacement.
Ted Warshafsky, U.W. 1952, of Warshafsky, Rotter, Tarnoff, Reinhardt
& Bloch S.C., Milwaukee, is one of eight litigators who have joined
with Amy Singer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in creating a "litigation
think tank." The new think tank will assist in developing strategies
and tactics for complicated litigation in major cases nationwide.
Lisa M. Wilson (formerly Lisa M. Faust), Marquette 1997, has joined
Stupar & Schuster S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate.
The Winnebago County Bar Association has elected these officers: president
- William J. Hammett, Menasha; president-elect - Teresa S. Basiliere,
Oshkosh; and secretary/treasurer - Brenda Marks, Menasha.
Daniel Graber, DePaul 1990, has been appointed as an assistant
U.S. attorney in the U.S. attorney's office for the Western District of
Wisconsin, working as the asset forfeiture AUSA in the criminal division's
drug unit. He formerly worked in the tax division at the Department of Justice
in Washington, D.C. Heidi Luehring, U.W. 1993, also has been appointed
as an assistant U.S. attorney in the office, working half-time on financial
litigation cases in the civil division. Luehring formerly was employed at
Garvey and Associates in Madison.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice has hired six new assistant attorneys
general and has reassigned current personnel: Leonard Martin, U.W.
1992, will work in the government operations and administrative law unit;
Susan Crawford, Iowa College of Law 1994, and Lara Herman,
U.W. 1996, will work in criminal appeals; Joseph Thomas, Marquette 1975,
will work in the Fifth Standard project position in the government operations
and administrative law unit; Eric Callisto, U.W. 1994, will work
in the civil litigation unit; and Cheryl Lutz, U.W. 1996, will fill a temporary
vacancy as an LTE attorney in the employment unit. Assistant Attorney
General Sally Wellman, U.W. 1979, has stepped down as director of the
criminal appeals unit and has returned to the practice of law full time
in criminal appeals. Assistant Attorney General Mary Burke, U.W.
1989, is the new director of the criminal appeals unit.
Sandra J. Zenor, Marquette 1985, has merged her law firm, becoming
a partner in La Chapelle, Rushevics & Lloyd, Wisconsin Rapids, counseling
in family, criminal defense and the general practice of law.
