Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson, Indianapolis
1956, delivered the 1997 Louis Caplan Distinguished Lecture in Law at the
Pittsburgh School of Law in April. During her lecture, "All the World's
a Courtroom: Judging in the New Millennium," she explored whether lawyers
and judges disserve the legal system by limiting themselves to considering
only case law in their own states and ignoring the wealth of persuasive
precedents in other jurisdictions and legal systems.
James L. Adashek, Vanderbilt 1979, has joined Quarles & Brady
as a partner, focusing in bankruptcy law and litigation.
Renee A. Bamford, Marquette 1996, has become an associate in the
Houston office of Andrews & Kurth L.L.P. Bamford, formerly an in-house
attorney with Johnson Controls Inc., Milwaukee, will practice in banking,
finance, corporate and securities.
Anthony Bottino, Marquette 1995, has joined the Tarrytown, N.Y.,
law firm of Sprung Horn Kramer & Woods as an associate practicing in
intellectual property law.
Michael B. Brennan, Northwestern 1989, has accepted a position
with the Milwaukee County District Attorneys Office.
George C. Brown, formerly the State Bar of Wisconsin Public Affairs
Director, has joined Quarles & Brady in the government relations group
as a government relations advisor. He joins attorneys Peter C. Christianson,
Anthony H. Driessen and Anthony S. Earl, and government relations advisor
Scott E. Stenger in representing the firm's business, industry and association
clients before the state Legislature and government agencies.
The Chippewa County Bar Association has elected the following officers:
president - Kristina M. Moelter, Eau Claire; secretary/treasurer
- Peter J. Weidenheim, Chippewa Falls; and social chair - Harold
Stafford, Chippewa Falls.
Stephen M. Compton, Marquette 1992, has joined the law firm of
Brennan, Steil, Basting & MacDougall S.C., focusing primarily in litigation
and appellate practice.
Jennifer Darling, U.W. 1996 cum laude, has joined the State Bar
of Wisconsin staff as a legal editor in CLE Books. She also will continue
to administrate the State Bar Clients' Security Fund.
Dwight Darrow, Marquette 1982, an attorney with Darrow, Dieterich
and Hawley S.C., Sheboygan, was elected board president at the annual meeting
of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sheboygan County.
Robert A. Downing, U.W. 1956 cum laude, has joined Ruff, Weidenaar
& Reidy Ltd., Chicago, as of counsel. Downing is a trial lawyer in insurance
coverage disputes and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
He will oversee the firm's associate development program and counsel clients
in coverage and other liability matters.
Justin L. Goldner, U.W. 1957, has been named of counsel at Rosenfeld,
Meyer & Susman LLP, Beverly Hills, Calif. Goldner is a certified specialist
in taxation law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.
He formerly was a trial attorney in the regional counsel's office of the
IRS in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Los Angeles, Calif.
Oscar A. Herasme, U.W. 1995, was elected president of the Dominican-American
Professional Alliance, a nonprofit organization based in New York City.
The organization promotes educational and economic empowerment within the
Dominican-American community in New York and elsewhere. Herasme continues
as assistant district attorney at the Manhattan DA's office in New York.
Jesse S. Ishikawa, Michigan 1980, a partner in the Madison office
of Michael, Best & Friedrich, has been elected to the American College
of Real Estate Lawyers. He practices in all areas of commercial real estate,
and has been particularly active in legal issues involving land development.
Thomas M. Jacobson, U.W. 1962, has left Jacobson & Hupy S.C.,
to establish his own practice at the Law Offices of Thomas M. Jacobson
S.C., 100 E. Wisconsin Ave., Suite 1680, Milwaukee. Jacobson will focus
on personal injury and serious work injuries.
Bruce A. Keyes, U.W. 1990, has joined Foley & Lardner's Milwaukee
office as an associate practicing in the environmental practice group and
in the cross-disciplinary brownfields working group being formed.
Rodney W. Kimes, Creighton 1992, has become a shareholder in Bolgrien,
Rentz, Mineau & Koepke S.C., Beloit. The firm will be known as Bolgrien,
Rentz, Mineau, Koepke & Kimes S.C. Kimes practices in personal injury,
civil litigation, collections, criminal, family law and bankruptcy.
Robert W. Kohn, U.W. 1959, spoke at the National Association of
Retail Collection Attorneys conference in Atlanta, Ga. He spoke on "Transition
Issues: Small to Large Firm Marketing." He also spoke at the 67th Annual
Chicago Conference on behalf of the Commercial Law League of America. Kohn
participated in a panel entitled "Creative Marketing for the 90s."
Kohn practices in commercial and retail collections.
Christopher Lummis, Vermont 1996, has joined Redfield Law Offices
in Stevens Point as an associate participating in all areas of general practice.
Cheryl R. Lutz, U.W. 1996, has joined Behling Law Office, Cambridge,
as a general practitioner with an emphasis in family and juvenile law.
Thomas F. McDonald, Marquette 1995, has joined Krukowski &
Costello S.C., Milwaukee. His practice involves labor and employment litigation.
Linda S. McPike, Northwestern 1992, has joined the legal department
of United Health Inc., Milwaukee, as corporate counsel. She formerly was
an associate with von Briesen, Purtell & Roper S.C.

Steven L. Miller, U.W. 1987 cum laude, and Nancy B. Miller,
U.W. 1986 cum laude, have expanded their law offices, Miller and Miller,
to include Green Bay and River Falls, with the main office in River Falls.
Steve now maintains a strictly appellate practice. Nancy continues her practice
in family and juvenile law, concentrating on TPR cases.
Alan C. Olson, Marquette 1989, has become a member in the National
Employment Lawyers Association, a professional organization of advocates
for employee rights.
Claire Parins, U.W. 1990, has joined the National Clearinghouse
for Legal Services in Chicago, Ill., as a staff attorney and editor for
the Clearinghouse Review, a bimonthly poverty law journal.
Patterson, Jensen, Wylie, Silton & Seifert S.C., has changed the
firm name to Silton, Seifert, Carlson & Gamble S.C. and continues
in its present offices in Appleton.
Barbara L. Holly, U.W. 1992, has become a shareholder in the Neenah
law firm of Remley & Sensenbrenner S.C. She continues to emphasize family
law, litigation, elder law and estate planning. Mark J. Tyczkowski,
U.W. 1988, has joined the firm practicing general litigation with an emphasis
in family and personal injury law.
Caryl J. Shortridge (formerly Arneson), U.W. 1988 cum laude, has
joined the Janesville office of Brennan, Steil, Basting & MacDougall
S.C., practicing in estate planning, business succession planning, family
wealth transfer and preservation planning, asset structuring, retirement
planning, charitable giving planning, probate, business formations and corporate.
Christopher G. Sitzmann, William Mitchell 1978, has moved his
business and environmental law practice to 103 E. College Ave., Suite 301,

John David Slavney, Indiana 1987, has joined Interim Technology
of Oak Brook, Ill., as a technical communications consultant. He is a former
senior editor at West Group, concentrating on document assembly and law
practice system product design. He previously practiced with Lee, Kilkelly,
Paulson & Kabaker S.C. in Madison.
Capt. Deanna L. Sokolski, Marquette 1996, has been working as
an assistant staff judge advocate for the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate
General Department. Stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City,
Fla., she is working as the chief of legal assistance and preventive law
and as the claims officer for the base legal office.
Maj. Joseph S. Spence Sr., Washburn 1989, has completed a tour
of military duty during "Operation Joint Endeavor" in Bosnia.
Spence was the deputy director of Logistics and Installation Transportation
Office for the 235th Combat Support Battalion and served as the executive
officer for the 417th Base Support Battalion, both in Western Europe. For
his exemplary service during "Operation Joint Endeavor," Spence
was awarded the Meritorious Service medal from President Clinton and the
Army Achievement medal from the Secretary of the Army. Spence, formerly
an assistant professor of military science at Marquette University, is an
ordained minister and an attorney in Milwaukee.
Christopher T. Starkey, U.W. 1992, has joined the Madison law
firm of Coyne, Niess, Schultz, Becker & Bauer S.C., as an associate
in the firm's trial practice.
Britt L. Tinglum, U.W. 1989, has become a partner in the Seattle,
Wash., law firm of Keller Rohrback L.L.P. She focuses her practice in complex
commercial and general civil litigation.
Peter G. Vandenhouten, U.W. 1996, Order of the Coif, has joined
Quarles & Brady as an associate concentrating in corporate law, real
estate and land use.
Jeffrey S. Ward, Illinois 1984, has joined Lathrop & Clark
as a partner in the firm. He formerly was a partner in the Chicago law firm
of Leydig, Voit & Mayer Ltd. He practices patent litigation and prosecution
in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields.
Robert K. Weber, U.W. 1972, and Patrick K. Cafferty, Marquette
1994, have opened Weber & Cafferty S.C., at 2932 Northwestern
Ave., Racine, practicing in labor and employment law, criminal defense litigation
and elder law. Both previously were associated with Hanson, Gasiorkiewicz
& Weber S.C.
Joseph M. Welch, U.W. 1990, has joined the Appleton law firm of
Sigman, Janssen, Stack, Wenning & Wilson, practicing in commercial,
business, real estate and estate planning.
John G. Wylie, Marquette 1962, is now devoted full time to his
mediation and settlement services practice, which includes mediation, arbitration,
supervised negotiations and neutral evaluations from his office at W8745
Cloverleaf Lake Rd., Clintonville, Wis. He formerly was with Patterson,
Jensen, Wylie, Silton & Seifert S.C., in Appleton. |
