Board of Governors Actions
The following State Bar Board of Governors' actions were taken
at the June 24 meeting in Milwaukee. Full Text of BOG Minutes
SUPPORTED, in a straw vote, the Electronic Bar Services Committee
recommendations to put historical case law on WisBar for free access by
members and the public
ELECTED by a majority vote Robert Goepel to the ABA House of
Delegates; elected unanimously Grant Killoran to the ABA House of Delegates
young lawyers position.
SUSPENDED the bylaw that limits service on State Bar special
committees to four consecutive terms.
DISAPPROVED the Election Policies Committee recommendations for
a stipend for the State Bar president and campaign reimbursements for officer
candidates; passed on a vote of 22 to 15 an "aspirational goal"
concerning geographical rotation for president-elect candidates; and unanimously
passed the balance of the Election Policies Committee report.
AMENDED the rules for resolution of fee disputes.
PERMITTED sections with written requests to carry over more than
$5,000 into the next fiscal year.
APPROVED the Staff Hiring Committee report.
ADOPTED the resolution to approve the prosecutors' assistance
program of the Wisconsin District Attorneys' Association as a committee
or organization to assist ill or disabled lawyers pursuant to SCR 20:8.3(c)(2)(i).
APPROVED FY97 budget modifications; increased from $8,000 to
$16,000 the pro bono administration line item in the FY98 budget, then unanimously
adopted the FY98 budget; and agreed to a standing order to deal with the
budget as the first business item at future June Board meetings.
APPOINTED Mary Lynne Donohue, Ted Hodan, Robert Goepel and Frank
E. Sterbin to the WisTAF board.
APPOINTED James Jaeger to fill the vacancy created by Gov. Eisinger's
resignation due to her move from Dane County.
APPOINTED Paul Scoptur to fill the vacancy in the Milwaukee Board
delegation due to Gov. Tess-Mattner's election as chair of the Board for
FY98.
