In November 1997 Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson was awarded
the Rosewood Gavel for outstanding judicial service. This award is given
annually by St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.
Thomas Arnon Allen, U.W. 1992 cum laude, has joined RMT Inc. as
its counsel in the corporate headquarters in Madison. RMT Inc., a subsidiary
of WPL Holdings Inc., is an environmental consulting firm with offices in
the United States and Europe.
Wayne A. Arnold, U.W. 1974, recently made a presentation to the
6th Annual Conference for Trustees & Board Chairs, sponsored by the
Minnesota Hospital and Healthcare Partnership in Minneapolis, Minn., on
"The Board's Relationship with the CEO." Arnold is a first
assistant with the Wisconsin Public Defenders Office.
Richard Baumann, U.W. 1964, has become a member of the Board of
Directors of the American Board of Certification, which has a national certification
program for business and consumer bankruptcy specialists called, "American
Bankruptcy Board of Certification," and creditors' rights specialists
called, "Board of Creditors' Rights Specialists." The American
Bankruptcy Institute and the Commercial Law League of America sponsor the
programs.
John C. Vitek, Nebraska 1985 with distinction, has been elected
a shareholder in Beck, Chaet, Molony & Bamberger S.C. Edward B. Matkom,
Marquette 1995 with honors, has joined the firm as an associate in its Milwaukee
office. The firm has offices in Madison and Milwaukee.
Michelle A. Behnke, U.W. 1988, has established her own law office
at 222 N. Midvale Blvd., Suite 1, Madison. Her practice includes general
business, corporate, real estate, estate planning, and immigration.
Herbert M. Berkowitz, U.W. 1971, received the 1997 Michael A.
Fogarty Memorial "In the Trenches" Award for excellence in civil
litigation, presented by the Trial Lawyers Section of the Hillsborough County
Bar Association. Berkowitz practices in personal injury litigation in Tampa,
Fla.
The law firm of Blumenfeld, Rose & deJong S.C. has expanded
and relocated to 16620 W. Bluemound Road, Suite 500, Brookfield. The full-service
law firm emphasizes business and corporate issues, tax matters, estate planning,
family law, real estate, and general civil and commercial litigation.
The Board of Attorneys Professional Responsibility has elected these
officers for 1998: chair - Sharren B. Rose, Green Bay; vice
chair - Adrian P. Schoone, Racine. The Wisconsin Supreme Court
has reappointed three of its members for additional three-year terms, which
will expire on Dec. 31, 2000: Jon P. Axelrod, Madison; citizen member
- Laura DeGolier, Fond du Lac; and Trinette D. Pitts,
Milwaukee. BAPR is composed of eight attorneys and four citizen members.

Maureen D. Boyle, U.W. 1994, has joined the U.W. Law School Resource
Center on Impaired Driving as assistant director in a part-time capacity.
She also is working part time as assistant district attorney in Walworth
County where she handles misdemeanor and felony cases.

C.H. Stuart Charlson, Marquette 1992, has joined the West Coast
Employers Association Inc., Tampa, Fla. West Coast provides human resources
support, supervisory training, outplacement services, and consulting services
to member companies in Florida and the U.S. Charlson formerly was associated
with Krukowski & Costello S.C., Milwaukee.
The Chippewa County Bar Association has elected its officers for 1998-99:

Michael P. Coaty, U.W. 1987, has become a partner with Coleman,
Hull & van Vliet PLLP, Minneapolis, Minn. Coaty previously was of counsel
with the firm and before that was a shareholder of Bennett, Brown, Ingvaldson,
Coaty & McNeil P.A. He will continue practicing in commercial litigation,
creditors' rights, and bankruptcy.
Davis & Kuelthau S.C. has opened a Madison office temporarily
located at 14 S. Carroll St. The office is managed by Walter Kuhlmann
and Richard J. Delacenserie, formerly partners at Boardman, Suhr,
Curry & Field. Kuhlmann, U.W. 1976, is a shareholder in the firm's
environmental law section, focusing on environmental law and litigation,
and selected utility matters. Delacenserie, U.W. 1980, is a shareholder
in the litigation and environmental law sections, practicing in environmental,
product liability, employment, and other commercial litigation. John
E. Rothschild also has joined the Madison office as a shareholder in
municipal finance and will head that practice area. Alan G.B. Kim Jr.,
U.W. 1991, joins the Madison office as an associate in the litigation and
environmental law sections, practicing in construction, environmental, product
liability, and general commercial litigation.
Bradley S. Foley, Marquette 1996, has joined Quale, Feldbruegge,
Calvelli, Thom & Croke S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate practicing in
civil litigation. He formerly was a judicial law clerk to the Milwaukee
County Circuit Court.
Seven attorneys practicing in Foley & Lardner's Milwaukee office
have been elected to partnership in the firm. Elizabeth S. Blutstein,
National Law Center 1988 with high honors, practices in the health-care
finance group; Jeffrey N. Costakos, Marshall-Wythe School of Law
1988, is a member of the intellectual property department; Parick P.
Fee, Harvard 1989 cum laude, practices in the insurance group; Lisa
S. Neubauer, Chicago 1987, is in the litigation department; Hugh
J. O'Halloran, Marquette 1989 magna cum laude, is a member of the
real estate group; Russell E. Ryba, Drake 1989 with high honors,

Fred Foreman, John Marshall 1974, a partner with the Chicago law
firm of Freeborn & Peters, has become a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin.
He is the former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois serving
under President George Bush. He also served as the elected state's
attorney for Lake County Illinois from 1980-90.
The Fuller Law Office has dedicated its entire practice to assisting
and consulting with other attorneys in Southeastern Wisconsin on an independent
contractor basis. Richard H. Fuller, Marquette 1993 cum laude, provides
services in litigation support; Henry C. Fuller Jr., Marquette 1962,

Cynthia L. Glaze, Marquette 1997, has joined Stupar & Schuster
S.C., Milwaukee, as an associate. She also is licensed to practice law in

of Godfrey, Neshek, Worth, Leibsle & Conover S.C., Elkhorn.

Daniel E. Goldberg, U.W. 1983, formerly of Previant, Goldberg,
Uelmen, Gratz, Miller & Brueggeman S.C., has opened the Law Offices
of Daniel E. Goldberg S.C., 8989 N. Port Washington Road, Suite 227,
Milwaukee. He will continue to represent individuals in personal injury,
worker's compensation, and Social Security disability.
Jeff B. Groshek, Marquette 1996, has joined the law firm of Lee,
Kilkelly, Paulson & Kabaker S.C., Madison, practicing in tax, estate
planning, and business/corporate law. He previously was a senior
tax consultant with Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P., Milwaukee.
The law firm of Hale & Lein S.C. has changed its name to Hale,
Skoglind & Wagner S.C. Shareholders of the firm are Christopher
T. Hale, David M. Skoglind, and K. Scott Wagner. Russell M. Lein remains
of counsel. The firm concentrates in civil litigation with an emphasis on
corporate, commercial, personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability,

Les Hodges, Marquette 1996 cum laude, has been admitted to practice
before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Hodges is admitted to practice
in Wisconsin and Michigan, and works as a patent attorney for Ford Global
Technologies Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn,
Mich.
Scott A. Jackman, Rutgers 1996, has become an associate with the
Wausau firm of Mallery & Zimmerman S.C. Jackman provides services in
corporate law, real estate law, taxation, civil litigation, and estate
planning.
Wendy A. Schmidt, Hamline 1996, has joined the litigation team
in the Wausau office of Kasdorf, Lewis & Swietlik S.C. as an associate.
Christopher A. Duesing, Drake 1995, formerly with Bode, Schroeder
& Carroll S.C., has become an associate in the firm's Milwaukee
office. John H. Schroth, Minnesota 1994, formerly of Parke O'Flaherty
Ltd., has become associated with Kasdorf, Lewis & Swietlik S.C. in Green
Bay.
Walter F. Kelly, Boston College 1968, has relocated to the Broadway
Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, Suite 600, Milwaukee. He continues his
practice in employment, labor and civil rights counseling, and litigation.
He shares offices with First, Blondis, Albrecht, Bangert & Novotnak
S.C., with whom he has become affiliated in a reciprocal of counsel relationship.
Kohn Law Firm, Milwaukee, has been an active participant in Wisconsin's
School to Work initiative. Robert W. Kohn, U.W. 1959, recently taught
Wisconsin Electric Company's "Choices" program to 8th grade
students at Greendale Intermediate School. The firm's computer manager,
Dorothy K. Majewski, participated in a job shadowing experience with
a West Allis Nathan Hale High School student. Administrator, Brenda A.
Majewski, is a Junior Achievement consultant and taught the "Our
Region" program to two classes of 4th grade students at College Park
Elementary School. Working hand-in-hand with the schools, the firm is helping
prepare today's students to enter tomorrow's workforce. The firm
concentrates its practice in retail and commercial debt collection.
Valorie Kohn, Marquette 1988, has formed Kohn Family Law
Offices S.C. at 8989 N. Port Washington Road, Suite 207, Milwaukee.
Kohn practices in divorce, custody, modifications, mediation, and guardian
ad litem work. She formerly was associated with Chernov, Stern & Burbach
S.C., Milwaukee.
K. Thor Lundgren, Minnesota 1974 cum laude, has rejoined Michael
Best & Friedrich L.L.P. as a partner practicing in corporate law, with
emphasis in securities, finance, creditors' rights, and bankruptcy.
Lundgren returns after serving as executive vice president for law and governmental
affairs, secretary, and general counsel for Harnischfeger Industries Inc.
He was a member of Michael Best & Friedrich for 17 years and a member
of the firm's management committee prior to joining Harnischfeger.
Lundgren has lectured at the U.W. Law School and has been recognized on
a national basis for expertise in business law, the Foreign Corrupt Practices
Act and financial transactions. He is admitted to practice before the U.S.
Supreme Court.
Jerome R. Kerkman, U.W. 1984, formerly of Quarles & Brady,
has joined Maier & McIlnay Ltd., Milwaukee, as a shareholder. Angelica
M. Aldred, Illinois 1989, formerly of Quarles & Brady, has joined
the firm as an associate. The firm has changed its name to Maier McIlnay
& Kerkman Ltd.
John W. Markson, U.W. 1978, of Bell, Metzner, Gierhart & Moore
S.C., Madison, has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of
Trial Lawyers.
Michele D. Miller, U.W. 1991, now practices as Michele D. Miller
Hayes. She is associate counsel for Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance
Corporation, Madison.
Keith J. Nelsen, U.W. 1989, has become associate general counsel
for Danka Corporation, a worldwide distributor of automated office solutions
and facilities management, in St. Petersburg, Fla. He formerly was vice
president-legal and secretary for NordicTrack Inc., Minneapolis, Minn.
Bruce A. Olson, Marquette 1981, of Olson Nesemann, Appleton, recently
presented "Contract With Confidence - How to Get it Right the
First Time," at the MPI Professional Education Conference, North America,
for the Meeting Professional's International in Orlando, Fla.
Patrick O. Patterson, Columbia 1972, as one of four members of
a delegation representing the U.S. National Employment Lawyers Association,
participated in meetings and seminars with Japanese lawyers, union officials,
and law professors at the Joint Symposia on Employment Law and Deregulation
held in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, Japan, in February. He presented a paper
entitled, "'Employment at Will' and Employment Discrimination
Laws in the United States."
Gregory L. Peters, Marquette 1993, has joined the law firm
of Burk, Seaton & Castle P.A., Minneapolis, Minn. He will continue
to practice management-side labor and employment law. Peters previously
was associated with Krukowski & Costello S.C., Milwaukee.

Joseph A. Rice, Marquette 1985, Whitefish Bay, has been appointed
to the 10-member Wisconsin Commission on Public Broadcasting. The commission,
created by the Wisconsin Legislature, will study governance, funding, and
technology issues facing public broadcasting in Wisconsin. Rice is vice
chair of the Milwaukee Area Technical College Board of Directors and chairs
the Channel 10/36 Public TV Committee. He is a vice president of Zigman
Joseph Stephenson in Milwaukee.
Miguel A. Ruiz, U.W. 1992, has been elected partner in the Chicago
law firm of Bresler, Harvick & Glenn Ltd. Ruiz concentrates in personal
injury litigation, with an emphasis in medical malpractice defense. He formerly
was an associate with the law firm of Clausen Miller P.C.
Eugene R. Schramka, Marquette 1982, a tax consultant in the Madison
office of Grant Thornton L.L.P., recently received certifications as a personal
financial specialist by the AICPA and in integrated resource management
by the Association of Production and Inventory Control Specialists. Schramka
also is a CPA.
Mark A. Seidl, U.W. 1974, and Michael J. Stingl, U.W. 1983,
have formed Seidl & Stingl S.C. with offices at 2620 Stewart
Ave., Suite 314, Wausau, and 125 W. Davenport, Rhinelander. Seidl practices

James B. Sherman, Marquette 1987, a shareholder in the labor

Brent D. Skinner, Nebraska 1973, has formed the Skinner Law
Firm at 2910 Schneider Ave. E., Menomonie. He continues to provide services
regarding probate, estate and business planning, real estate, family law,
and other related legal matters. Skinner is one of the two court commissioners
for Dunn County.
Dean T. Stange, U.W. 1993 cum laude, has joined the law firm of

Shane J. VanderWaal, Hamline 1992, and Patrick H. Finlan,
Hamline 1993, have formed the law firm of VanderWaal & Finlan S.C.

Law Firm, Wausau. Finlan formerly practiced at Johnson & Houlihan S.C.,

Heidi L. Vogt, Marquette 1990 cum laude, has become a shareholder

Deepak Malhotra, Marquette 1993, and George Grigel, Franklin
Pierce 1984, both registered patent attorneys, have become shareholders
of Wells St. John Roberts Gregory & Matkin P.S., an intellectual property
law firm in Spokane, Wash., practicing in the technology areas of electronics
and software; and microbiology, respectively, and in portfolio management,
trademarks, competitive intelligence, licensing, and related areas.
Monte E. Weiss, Case Western Reserve 1991, has established Weiss
Law Office S.C., 525 E. Wells St., Suite 250, Milwaukee. He continues
to concentrate his practice on the defense of personal injury, property
damage, and products liability claims and will expand his practice to other

Scott R. Winkler, U.W. 1983, recently was nominated by Milwaukee
Mayor John Norquist, and confirmed by the city's Common Council, to
serve a five-year term as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals for the
City of Milwaukee. Winkler is an associate with Stilp and Cotton, Milwaukee,
where he practices insurance defense.
The Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyer's Association recently elected the

Gary M. Young, U.W. 1978, has commenced practice under the name
Law Offices of Gary M. Young, P.O. Box 55028, Madison. His practice
covers general civil litigation, trial and appellate, including business
litigation, tort and insurance law, professional malpractice, and environmental
litigation. He also is available as a consultant in litigation risk analysis,
and legal research and writing. Young serves as lecturer and curriculum
assistant in the Legal Research and Writing Program at the U.W. Law School
and teaches a course on professional malpractice law.
