I don’t know about you, but I am Zoomed out. After two years of remote work and virtual meetings, I need human interaction.
For me, the novelty of the Brady Bunch or Hollywood Squares model quickly faded. Nothing can replace direct interaction in building stronger collegiality, collaboration, and communication.
That’s why I am so excited that, after three years, we are coming together again in person for the State Bar of Wisconsin’s 2022 Annual Meeting & Conference (AMC).
In my conversations across the state, I’ve heard from members that they are ready to reconnect with each other. I cannot think of a better way than the AMC, the largest annual gathering of Wisconsin’s legal profession.
“New and improved” are overused words these days, but for those of you returning, you will experience a dramatically expanded conference, bringing lawyers, supreme court justices, judges, legal administrators, and paralegals together to learn, connect, and relax.
Working with Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Annette Ziegler, as well as the Director of State Courts, Judge Randy Koschnick, we are developing the AMC into a true bench and bar event. In collaboration with the Judicial Education Committee, there will be judicial education credit programming offered. In addition, the office of the Director of State Courts will be covering expenses for judges to participate. If you are a judge in Wisconsin, please don’t miss this opportunity to connect with other judges and lawyers.
In addition, the Wisconsin Association of Legal Administrators will host its annual continuing education conference in conjunction with the AMC. Finally, there will be opportunities for paralegals to participate as well.
Two great plenary speakers will headline the AMC.
We will open with Dr. Sharon Meit Abrahams with the program “If You Build it They Will Come, and Hopefully Stay.” She and panelists will share the “hows” of attracting and retaining diverse talent in legal settings of all kinds – including small law firms, large law firms, corporations, and government settings.
You will experience a dramatically expanded conference, bringing lawyers, supreme court justices, judges, legal administrators, and paralegals together to learn, connect, and relax.
We will close with Paul Clement, former United States Solicitor General, and a partner at Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, D.C. Clement holds the record for arguing the most U.S. Supreme Court cases since 2000; before that, he clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Clement’s presentation is titled “The Roberts Court in Transition.” He will be interviewed by the deans of Wisconsin’s two law schools – Joe Kearney, Marquette University Law School, and Dan Tokaji, the University of Wisconsin Law School – both of whom bring a wealth of experience themselves.
In addition to the opening and closing plenaries, there will be more than 25 other CLE breakout sessions in a variety of practice area, health and wellness, and diversity, equity, and inclusion topics. Earn 9.5 CLE and 1.5 LPM, including options of 4.5 EPR, 2 LPM and 1 LAU, depending on the breakout sessions you choose! In addition to what you earn on site, you can also earn up to 8 CLE credits following the AMC via webinar replays.
So mark your calendar for June 15-17 to join us at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva and encourage your colleagues to join you as well. You don’t want to miss it!
