Micabil Diaz-Martinez, Marquette 1989, received the Hoban-Davenport Award from the Disabled American Veterans of Wisconsin in June in recognition of his support for employment opportunities for Wisconsin veterans. In October, he received the Hispanic Man of the Year Award from United Migrant Opportunities Services. He is with the state Department of Workforce Development, Madison.

Lynn R. Laufenberg, Marquette 1975 cum laude, received the Robert L. Habush Trial Lawyer of the Year award from the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers (WATL) in December. He is a senior member of Laufenberg & Hoefle S.C., Milwaukee, and concentrates on personal injury litigation. The award is bestowed on a WATL member who has made an outstanding contribution to the public interest or demonstrated compassion and commitment to advocacy for injured consumers.

Pro Bono, Public Service
A bankruptcy help desk has been established for pro se debtors in the Eastern District of Wisconsin who cannot afford to hire a lawyer in Chapter 7 cases. The desk is staffed by cochairs Andrew N. Herbach, Marquette 1985, Howard, Solochek & Weber SC, Milwaukee, and Marie L. Nienhuis, Boston College 1987, Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Waukesha.
Hupy and Abraham s.c., Milwaukee, offered a reward to solve the murder of an employee's relative. As a result, arrests were made and the crime was solved. The firm also donated $10,000 to the NAACP Scholarship Fund at the organization's annual Freedom Dinner in September.
Milwaukee Municipal Court judge James Gramling, U.W. 1971, and Wisconsin reserve judge Charles Schudson, U.W. 1974, served as international election observers for the December 3, 2006, presidential election in Venezuela.
