Burneatta Bridge, U.W. 1982, has been appointed by Gov. Jim Doyle to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals seat left vacant by the retirement of Judge David Deininger. She formerly was head of the DHFS Division of Children and Family Services.

Thomas G. Halloran, U.W. 1977, has joined Garvey McNeil & McGillivray S.C., Madison, as of counsel and focuses on labor and employment law, criminal defense, civil rights, and general litigation. John A. Griner IV, Drake 1984, has been promoted to associate managing counsel at Nada K. Sizemore & Associates, the Brookfield office of the Travelers Indemnity Co., and continues to focus on worker's compensation matters.

William Hanrahan, Hamline 1988, has been appointed by Gov. Jim Doyle to fill the vacancy on the Dane County Circuit Court left by the retirement of Judge Moria Krueger. He previously was a Wisconsin assistant attorney general and head of the Medicaid Fraud Unit.

James M. Hauser, Marquette 1988, has become an associate circuit court judge in the Illinois 15th Judicial Circuit and is assigned to Stephenson County. He previously was with Mahoney & Hauser Ltd., Freeport, Ill.

Stephanie King, Marquette 2006, and Jocelyn Wych, Marquette 2005, have joined Jeffrey Leavell S.C., Racine, as associates and focus on business litigation and personal injury matters.

Robert E. Potrzebowski Jr., U.W. 1991 cum laude, has become sole shareholder in Kohn Law Firm S.C., Milwaukee, which concentrates in debt collection and litigation. Founder Robert W. Kohn, U.W. 1959, will remain with the firm as of counsel.

Amy J. Krier, U.W. 2003, has joined Davis & Kuelthau s.c., Milwaukee, as an associate in the estate and succession planning department. She previously was with Deloitte Tax LLP.

Bret A. McKitrick, Pittsburgh 2000, has joined Simandl & Murray S.C., Waukesha, as an associate and focuses on benefits and employment counseling. He formerly was general counsel for an employee benefits plan administrator.

Patrick Miller, Marquette 2002, has joined the downtown Indianapolis office of Baker & Daniels LLP as an associate in the construction, environmental law, and real property litigation practice. He previously practiced construction law in Chicago and Indianapolis.

Jennifer Krueger, U.W. 2000, and Dean Stange, U.W. 1993, have become shareholders in Murphy Desmond S.C., Madison. Krueger practices business transactional law. Stange focuses on estate planning, probate, small business transactions, and real estate.

Awards, Degrees, Honors

Betsy Abramson, U.W. 1981, is the 2007 recipient of the Marygold Shire Melli Achievement Award, presented by the Legal Association for Women to a woman who advances the interests of women lawyers and promotes improvements in the administration of justice, equality, and social justice for all people. Abramson is being honored for her work in protecting the rights of older persons. She is cofounder and former director of the Elder Law Center at the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups and has been involved in many other professional activities in aid of the elderly.

Shiller

Mark A. Shiller, Michigan 1994, has been admitted to the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, based on his reputation and ability in trusts and estates and on having made substantial contributions to the field through writing, teaching, and bar activities. He is chair of the wealth management, estate planning, estate and trust administration, and business succession sections of von Briesen & Roper s.c., Mequon.

Rothman

Jay O. Rothman, Harvard 1985, has been named to the 2007 BTI Client Service All-Star Team for Law Firms in recognition of the outstanding client service he has provided to Fortune 1000 clients. He is a partner in the business law department in the Milwaukee office of Foley & Lardner LLP.

Dianne Post, U.W. 1979, spoke at the 4th Annual Battered Mothers Custody Conference in Albany, N.Y., in January on the topic of child custody.

Joseph S. Spence Sr., Washburn 1989, and Sheila M. Parrish-Spence, North Carolina Central 1972, are coauthors of Trilogy Moments for the Mind, Body, and Soul (PublishAmerica.Com 2006). Joseph Spence is an instructor at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Sheila Parrish-Spence is counsel for the Milwaukee County Department of Child Support Enforcement.

Carlton D. Stansbury, Iowa 1990 with distinction, presented "Subchapter S Income for Support: Real or Illusionary?" at the 2007 National CLE Conference in Snowmass, Colo. He is a shareholder with Burbach & Stansbury S.C., Milwaukee, and focuses on family law.
