New Hires, Promotions, Partners

Thomas Armstrong, U.W. 1975 magna cum laude, has joined von Briesen & Roper s.c., Milwaukee, as a shareholder, focusing on appellate advocacy and commercial litigation. He previously was a senior litigation partner in the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

Liza Barry-Kessler, U.W. 1997, has joined EarthLink Inc., Atlanta, Ga., as senior product manager in the security products group, working on parental controls, antispyware, and antiphishing efforts. She also is coauthor of Privacy in the 21st Century: Issues for Public, School, and Academic Libraries (Libraries Unlimited).

Glazer

Saul C. Glazer, U.W. 1990 cum laude, has joined Wickwire Gavin P.C., Madison, as an associate, focusing on construction, contract, and employment law.

Gina G. Carter, Georgetown 1986, has joined the Madison office of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. as head of the intellectual property litigation team, the intellectual property practice, and the credit union practice.

Dixon R. Gahnz, U.W. 1994, has joined Pitman, Kyle & Sicula s.c., Watertown, concentrating in personal injury law.

Halbrooks

Lynne M. (Solien) Halbrooks, Marquette 1988 cum laude, has been promoted to deputy sergeant at arms of the U.S. Senate. She previously was general counsel to the sergeant at arms.

Sheri Kasper Hank, U.W. 1992, has joined Jostens Inc., Minneapolis, as associate general counsel. She previously was a shareholder with Curtin & Rasley, Minneapolis.

Tim Kiefer, Harvard 1998, has joined the U.S. Foreign Service as a vice consul assigned to the U.S. Consulate General, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Donald F. Kiesling Jr., Marquette 1997, has joined the legal department of Safway Services, Waukesha. He previously was with We Energies, Milwaukee.

Tony Kordus, Nebraska 1997, has been made a partner at Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., Green Bay, continuing to concentrate in commercial litigation and business law with a focus on municipal and insurance law.

James P. O'Neil, Marquette 1988, has been called to active duty with the U.S. Army for an 18-month tour and has temporarily closed his practice, O'Neil Law Offices, Green Bay.

Jeffrey D. Patza, Marquette 2000, has joined Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols S.C., Milwaukee, practicing in environmental and general commercial litigation. He previously was with Hinshaw & Culbertson.


Gendreau	Van Hollen

Two attorneys have joined the Capitol Square office of DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., Madison. Chad R. Gendreau, U.W. 2003 cum laude, is an associate, concentrating on litigation. J.B. Van Hollen, U.W. 1990, focuses on litigation and environmental matters. He previously was U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin.

Gregory S. Pokrass, U.W. 1975, has become an administrative law judge with the Milwaukee office of the Social Security Administration. He previously was a commissioner for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Rymer

Timothy J. Rymer, Maryland 1990, has joined Gendlin & Liverman S.C., Milwaukee, focusing on automobile and motorcycle accident, slip and fall, medical malpractice, and nursing home negligence matters.

Lora L. Zimmer, Yale 2003, has joined the Appleton office of Hinshaw& Culbertson LLP as an associate, focusing on the defense of medical malpractice, products liability, and personal injury matters. She previously was an Outagamie County assistant district attorney in Appleton.

Mergers, Relocations, New Associations

Mark F. Borns, U.W. 1983, and Shane W. Falk, Minnesota 1996 cum laude, have formed Borns & Falk LLC, 10 Odana Court, Madison, focusing on family law, estate planning, real estate, criminal law, personal injury, and general litigation. Both formerly were with Relles, Borns & Long LLP, Madison.

Charles D. Wingrove, U.W. 2000 cum laude, has joined Victor Dana Brooks, Northeastern 1972, and Jennifer A. Moeller, Marquette 1994, as a shareholder in their firm, now known as Brooks, Moeller & Wingrove S.C., Sturgeon Bay.

Resnick & Yamat S.C. has moved to 400 N. Broadway, Suite 100, Milwaukee. The firm continues to focus on probate, guardianship, and elder law.

Appointments, Elections

Barry

James T. Barry III, Chicago 1989, has been named to the board of directors of Colliers International Property Consultants USA. He is president of Colliers Barry, Milwaukee.

John D. Finerty Jr., Marquette 1992, has been appointed chair of the civil litigation section of the Milwaukee Bar Association. He is a partner with the Milwaukee office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, focusing on litigation.

The Fond du Lac County Bar Association has elected the following officers: president - Terrence J. Gaffney; president-elect - Michael E. O'Rourke; secretary - Nicholas A. Brannen; and treasurer - Dawn M. Sabel, all of Fond du Lac.

Dennis R. Cimpl, Marquette 1975, has been elected to Milwaukee County Circuit Court Branch 19 for a term beginning Aug. 1, 2005. Gov. Jim Doyle also appointed him to the court to fill the unexpired term of the Hon. John McCormick, Marquette 1951.

The Kenosha County Bar Association has selected the following officers: president - Nicole L. Beddings; vice president - George H. Easton; secretary - Karin Anderson Riccio; and treasurer - Christine A. Gabron, all of Kenosha.

Dennis R. McBride, New York Univ. 1980, has been reelected chair of the Wauwatosa Civil Service Commission. He is a senior trial attorney in the Milwaukee district office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association has chosen the following officers: president - Neifor B. Acosta, Milwaukee; president-elect - Micabil Diaz Martinez, Madison; secretary - Carmen M. Ortiz- Babilonia, Milwaukee; and treasurer - Isa Gonzalez-Zayas, Milwaukee.

Authors, Speakers

Lawrence R. LaSusa, DePaul 1986, coauthored "Creating and Enforcing Non-competes," Northwest Michigan Business News vol. 11, no. 6. He is with Calcutt, Rogers & Boynton PLLC, Traverse City, Mich.

L. Michael Tobin, Texas 1977, has authored the revised edition of the Wisconsin Criminal Defense Manual (State Bar CLE Books, 3d ed. 2005). He is with the Office of the State Public Defender, Madison.

Lee H. Kummer, U.W. 1977, received the Service to Marquette award from the Marquette University Alumni Association in April. He is a partner with Kummer, Lambert & Fox, Manitowoc.

Eich

David Patrick Eich, Columbia 1992, has been named one of the "Finest 50 Rainmakers of 2004" by Legal Business. He is a partner with the London and Munich offices of Kirkland & Ellis International LLP, practicing in international private equity and mergers and acquisitions.

Two attorneys from Davczyk & Varline LLC, Wausau, are included in the 2005-06 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Terrance E. Davczyk, Marquette 1971, and Kathleen E. Grant, U.W. 1979, have both been included for at least 10 years.

Elisa M. Ruer, Marquette 1997, has been admitted to the Florida Bar. She is general counsel for Evergreen Title Corp., Brookfield.

Curtis M. Kirkhuff, U.W. 1960, is included in the 2005-06 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. He has been included in the publication for 20 consecutive years. He is with Pellino, Rosen, Mowris & Kirkhuff S.C., Madison.

James A. Friedman, U.W. 1992, has been named 2004 Volunteer Attorney of the Year by the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin. He is a shareholder with LaFollette Godfrey & Kahn S.C., Madison, focusing on First Amendment and media law, constitutional law, insurance law, and litigation.

Dennis J. Verhaagh, Minnesota 1972, was recognized by the State Bar Government Lawyers Division for his pro bono service to the legal profession and the public, including helping war veterans apply for benefits, speaking to students, advising county committees on environmental issues, working on architectural and legal issues for his church's building committee, serving as a CLE presenter, and writing for numerous legal publications. He is an environmental engineer with the Wisconsin DNR and also maintains a private practice.

Tony Welhouse, U.W. 1977, is included in the 2005-06 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. He is with Welhouse Law Office, Appleton, practicing primarily in worker's compensation and Social Security disability law.
