Aug. 17, 2016 – Whether you're looking for information about improving your law practice, need guidance on managing your business, or ready to kick back and enjoy life, you can find it at the 2016 Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference.

The 2016 Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference, Oct. 20-22, at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, is designed with the unique needs of the solo and small-firm practitioner in mind.

Plenaries Packed with Tools and Tips

The conference’s five plenaries pull everyone together to learn about presentation and extemporization skills, what’s happening in the appellate courts, emerging technology you don't want to live without, essential organizational skills for efficiency, and more.

    Plenaries include:

    Thursday, Oct. 20:

    • Improv for Lawyers
What do improvisation and law practice have in common – plenty. Improv techniques can make the difference in delivering successful outcomes for your clients. With presenters Brad Knight and Craig Johnson, Monkey Business Institute, Madison, and Christina Tenuta, Community Justice Inc., Madison, this session offers experiential training emphasizing active listening, clear communication, and teamwork using a supportive improv theater environment.

    • Stay in the Know: Recent Important Appellate Cases
Wisconsin Court of Appeals Judge Brian Blanchard will summarize how the Wisconsin Supreme Court addressed major criminal case issues during the 2015-16 term including: good faith by police and avoidance of suppression of evidence; sentencing courts using evidence-based risk assessment tools; and the validity of a judgement with subject matter jurisdiction questions.

    Friday, Oct. 21:

    • Total Workday Control for Your Practice
Are you buried under too much email and a huge task list? Then you need the One Minute To-Do List. A renowned expert on workday productivity and email control, author Michael Linenberger shows you how easy it is to start your very own One Minute To-Do List. It's a solution anyone can use – whether you prefer Word, Outlook, your smartphone, or good old-fashioned paper.

    Saturday, Oct. 22:

    • Gizmos, Gadgets, and Widgets
Back by popular demand, this fast-paced conference favorite, presented by Nerino Petro and Bryan Sims, offers a look at the lighter side of technology, including tips and overviews of the gizmos and gadgets that are most useful to your law practice and your life.

    • Nice Lawyers Finish First
It's been said that nice guys finish last, but nothing could be further from the truth in the practice of law, says Sean Carter, Humorist at Law. Zealous representation doesn't require lawyers to be zealots. In fact, the most effective representation requires just the opposite. That means lawyers should pay attention to the standards of civility as outlined in detail in this presentation. Nice lawyers finish first – and so do their clients!

    Evening Entertainment

The fun continues on Thursday evening with the Fifth Quarter Tailgate Party where you can cheer on the Packers (or the Bears, if you must) on Thursday Night Football following the Attendee Reception with complimentary hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine, and soda, plus a cash bar. Don’t forget to stop in at the hospitality suite on Friday evening for complimentary wine, beer, and refreshments.

As a special bonus, registrants will have the opportunity after the conference to watch webcasts of selected programs recorded at the conference – earning additional credits at no extra charge.
