    Paul F. Angel

Sept. 19, 2012 – Dodgeville attorney Paul F. Angel believes effective lawyers must master the management skills needed to run a small business and the professional insights necessary to meet the varied needs of their clients. With those principles guiding his 40-plus years in the profession, the legal community and the public are well served. Angel is the recipient of the 2012 John Lederer Service Award, which will be presented during the luncheon program on Oct. 26, at the annual Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference (WSSFC). The WSSFC, Oct. 25-27, is at the Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells.

Named in memory of Oregon, Wisconsin attorney John Lederer, this award is presented annually to an individual, group or organization exemplifying the leadership, spirit, and dedication of John Lederer, who saw it as his mission to help solo and small firm lawyers master the skills and technology needed to build their practices.

Angel’s Efforts Benefit Solo and Small Firm Practitioners Statewide

Angel has donated countless hours to projects, programs, and CLE efforts that benefit Wisconsin lawyers – especially those at firms of fewer than 15 attorneys. Much of his volunteer work has been through the Solo, Small Firm & General Practice Section.

WSSFC Early-Bird Discount Ends Sept. 25

It’s not too late to register for the WSSFC. Tuition is $269 for members and $369 for nonmembers, which includes the Friday networking luncheon when Angel will receive the John Lederer Service Award. After Sept. 25, prices increase by $50. The networking luncheon costs $20 for Ultimate Pass holders and guests. Members and their staff can register now.

This conference will be submitted for CLE and EPR credits and is included in the cost of the Ultimate Pass.

PINNACLE will record selected presentations and offer them via webcast at a later date at no additional cost to registrants.

Believing that the General Practice Section should broaden its offerings to members, as section chair in 2009, he urged the board to co-present a CLE program with the Solo & Small Firm Committee at the State Bar Annual Convention. Based on the success of the program, Angel urged the General Practice Board and Solo & Small Firm Committee to merge in 2010 to better serve the members of both entities. He has remained active with the section as it supports the WSSFC. He also sponsors a popular electronic list and offers other educational opportunities for members both new and experienced in practice.

“Paul is simply one of those rare people who believe we all benefit when the keys to a successful law practice are shared,” said Nancy Trueblood, Solo Small Firm & General Practice Section chair elect, in her nomination letter. “His dual emphasis on the practical and the inspirational is the hallmark of Paul’s volunteer work with the State Bar. He is a thoughtful leader and a tireless worker.”

Angel is a member of the 2003 Class of Fellows of the Wisconsin Law Foundation, a charitable and educational organization that serves to promote public understanding of the law, improvement of the administration of justice and other law-related public service.

    Active Community Leader

Angel practices with his two sons at Angel & Angel S.C. in Dodgeville in the practice he began in 1973. He doesn’t just give back to his peers in the legal community. He has volunteered his legal expertise to seniors, a local church, and a pro bono legal services program in Richland County. He has served as president of the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce, an area economic development group, and the Dodgeville Kiwanis.

A former president of the Iowa County Bar Association, he has worked as a mediator for the Iowa County Circuit Court system. His firm received the State Bar of Wisconsin Legal Assistance Committee Pro Bono Award for a Law Firm in 2000.

Angel received his J.D. in 1970 from the University of South Dakota.
