Vote Now: Return Your State Bar Elections Ballots by April 24

April 15, 2015 – Act now to have your say in setting the direction and policies of the State Bar. Here’s what you need to know to cast your vote for State Bar president-elect, treasurer, Judicial Council representative, district governors, and division officers and board members.

    Did You Receive Your Ballots?

Ballots for State Bar officers and district governors were mailed the week of April 6. The envelope is clearly marked “BALLOT” on the outside. These paper ballots are sent to all members and are due by April 24. If you did not receive your ballots, call Customer Service at (800) 444-9404.

If you belong to the Government, Nonresident, or Young Lawyers divisions, check your email for an electronic ballot sent April 8. These ballots are also due April 24. If you belong to more than one of these divisions, the email you receive will contain all of the ballots and candidate statements for each division in which you are eligible to vote. For more information on these email ballots and voting, see below.

Elect a President-elect, Treasurer, and Judicial Council Representative

The State Bar’s officers influence the future of the State Bar as well as set its policy direction. Your vote for officers will make a difference in the future of the organization that supports the practice of law in Wisconsin.

Officer positions up for election are president-elect, treasurer, and Judicial Council representative. The winning candidates will assume their office July 1. For general information on State Bar elections, see the elections page on WisBar.org.

    The 2015 officer candidates are:

The president-elect serves a one-year term before becoming president. The treasurer holds the position for two years, while the Judicial Council representative serves a three-year term.

18 Board of Governors Positions Up for Election

The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body, managing and directing the affairs and activities of the State Bar. Governors serve two-year terms. Your vote for your district governor is an important way to have a voice in the State Bar’s direction, services and policies.

In 2015, Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 will elect governors. The number of positions varies by district: District 2 (Milwaukee) elects seven; District 6 (Waukesha) elects one; District 9 (Dane) elects three; and all other districts elect one.

Ballots for the officers and governors positions will be mailed the week of April 6, 2015. If you are unsure which district you belong to, view the district map.

Candidates, along with bios and statements, are listed on WisBar.

    Division Elections

The State Bar divisions promote greater communication, networking, and business opportunities among member lawyers with similar interests and experience. The board members of each division set the tone for each division, send representatives to the State Bar’s Board of Governors, and produce the division’s newsletter. For the Government, Nonresident and Young Lawyers divisions, membership is free if you qualify.

This election closes at 11:59 p.m. Central Time on Friday, April 24.
