Choose from 32 Breakout Sessions in Four Tracks

The conference is packed with opportunities, including 32 breakout sessions in four tracks.

Customize your schedule to fit your interests and needs. Over three days, you can choose from educational sessions in four different tracks:

    • Practice Management: From hiring and directing employees, to identifying your ideal clients, to transitioning to more fulfilling or more profitable areas of practice, this track features sessions that equip you with the knowledge to succeed throughout the life-cycle of your law practice.

    • Quality of Life/Ethics: Learn to live the good life with guidance on managing stress, the new e-banking rules and how to navigate them ethically, what it really takes to make you happy (you might be surprised), and more sessions designed to protect you and your practice and enhance your life.

    • Substantive Law: Get the essential information on recent laws affecting your clients with sessions covering real estate, election law, tax law, multi-generation planning for family property, and more.

    • Technology: Whether you’re at the cutting edge of technology and need guidance on cloud security or looking to get more out of the basics like Microsoft Windows, this track has you covered.

    Bring Your Own Device Clinic

You use your smartphone, tablet, and notebook computer to conduct business and transmit sensitive, confidential client information. Have you enabled the proper settings and safeguards to help you protect your files? Have you set up security features to encrypt your files or find your device if lost or stolen? Bring your device to this quick-hitting session. Our presenters will run a quick audit of the most basic settings and you’ll leave with a checklist of apps and resources to maximize your security.

Short on Funds but Still Want to Attend? Apply for a Scholarship by Sept. 4.

Solo practice and small-firm attorneys are eligible to apply for a scholarship to the conference.

Preference for the scholarships will be given to solo practitioners and small-firm attorneys who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to financial constraints. Scholarship winners are responsible for their own travel and lodging costs, but the section will pay their conference registration fee.

In order to continue to fulfill the mission of the State Bar’s Solo & Small Firm/General Practice Section, scholarship recipients are expected to “pay it forward” through future volunteer service to the section by assisting with conference planning and/or serving on either the section board or a board subcommittee.

For more information, see the article, “Short on Funds? Apply for Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference Scholarship,” in this issue of InsideTrack.

For more information about the Solo/Small Firm & General Practice Section, visit the section’s page on WisBar.org.

    Plenaries that Make a Difference

Learn techniques that can make the difference in delivering successful outcomes for your clients at the opening plenary, Improv for Lawyers, with presenters Brad Knight and Craig Johnson, Monkey Business Institute, Madison; and Christina M. Tenuta, Community Justice Inc., Madison.

This plenary session will help you learn strong presentation skills, the ability to think quickly, listening with purpose, confidence under pressure, and reacting in the moment.

Plenty of Networking Opportunities – Plus a Tailgate Party

There’s networking opportunities and a chance to party and more at the conference’s special events.

There’s Thursday evening’s reception, followed by the Fifth Quarter Tailgate and Green Bay Packers game viewing party – to watch the Packers vs. the Bears on Thursday Night Football. You’ll have the best seat in the house to catch the game with friends, colleagues, and new connections.

On Friday, join in the networking lunch and be inspired by the John Lederer Solo and Small Firm Service Award winner – a lawyer, group, or organization who exemplifies the leadership, spirit, and dedication of John Lederer, who saw it as his mission to help solo and small-firm lawyers master skills and technology to build their practices.

And Friday night, take time to wind down from your conference at the hospitality suite.
