Sept. 21, 2016 – On Sept. 15, La Crosse and Florence counties became the latest counties to implement mandatory e-filing in civil, small claims, family, and paternity cases. Under the new mandatory e-filing rule, Wis. Stat. section 801.18, attorneys and high-volume filers, such as collections agencies, are required to file electronically.
Mandatory e-filing for these four case types is now in place in 12 counties: Adams, Barron, Chippewa, Columbia, Dodge, Dunn, Florence, Jefferson, LaCrosse, Ozaukee, Pierce, and Waupaca.
The schedule for the rest of 2016 is:
- Oct. 3: Clark, Green, Juneau, Vernon
- Oct. 17: Wood
- Nov. 1: Ashland, Rusk
- Nov. 15: Oneida, Waukesha
- Dec. 1: Marathon, Racine
Implementation will continue at a similar pace throughout 2017, with all counties mandatory by the end of the year for these case types.
In addition, e-filing in criminal cases is being offered on a voluntary basis in most of these counties. CCAP is working with each county’s district attorney’s office to begin criminal e-filing as counties are ready.
For notifications about when new counties or case types will be enabled, subscribe to the e-filing notification service on the right side of the circuit court e-filing homepage, or follow CCAP_Wisconsin on Twitter. Video tutorials and written guides are also posted on the website.
