    State Bar Elections: Cast Your Ballots, Due by April 27

    Voting in the State Bar of Wisconsin elections gives you a chance to have a say in setting the direction and policies of the State Bar. Here's what you need to know to cast your vote.

    April 4, 2018 – This month, State Bar members will elect a president-elect, a secretary, a Judicial Council representative, district governors, and division officers and board members.

    State Bar election ballots were mailed on Monday, April 2, 2018. They need to be returned by April 27 for you to have your vote in this year’s elections.

    “The State Bar’s Board of Governors influences the future of the State Bar as well as sets its policy direction,” says State Bar President Paul Swanson. “Your vote for these candidates will make a difference in the future of your practice and your profession.”

    Board of Governors’ Election

    The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year terms.

    Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, and 16 will elect governors in 2018. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects five; District 6 (Waukesha) elects two; District 9 (Dane) elects four; and all other districts elect one.

    The State Bar will mail election ballots no later than April 13, 2018, and they must be returned by April 27, 2018.

    Persons elected will take office July 1, 2018.

    Candidates for the Board of Governors

    The Board of Governors’ candidates represent a wide variety of experience and practice areas. By district, the candidates are:

    District 2 (five vacancies)

    District 6 (two vacancies)

    District 8 (one vacancy)

    District 9 (four vacancies)

    Ballot Information

    Please remember: Return your ballots by April 27.

    • Only State Bar divisions are handling elections electronically. If you do not open your mail, alert your assistant not to discard your State Bar of Wisconsin paper ballot for president-elect, secretary, Board of Governors, and Judicial Council offices. It is clearly marked “BALLOT” on the outside of the envelope.

    • Add noreply@directvote.net as an approved sender in your inbox today. This prevents the ballot from being identified as spam.

    • If you belong to more than one division, the email you receive will contain all of the ballots and candidate statements for any division in which you are eligible to vote.

    • If you have placed any holds on email from the State Bar, you may not receive an electronic ballot. You might want to phone Customer Service to verify that your account is set up to receive your email ballot. They can be reached at (800) 728-7788.
