    Help Shape the Next Generation of the Bar Exam: Take the NCBE Practice Analysis Survey

    Attorneys across the country have the opportunity to contribute to the National Conference of Bar Examiners study on what should be tested in the bar exam. The survey is available through the end of September.

    Aug. 7, 2019 – The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) is asking lawyers nationwide to take part in a practice analysis survey that assesses the core responsibilities of lawyers in their first three years of practice.

    The survey, available Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, 2019, is part of the NCBE Testing Task Force’s three-year study to consider the content, format, timing, and delivery methods for the bar exam, to ensure it keeps pace with a changing legal profession.

    The State Bar of Wisconsin is participating in the survey, which is open to attorneys nationwide, and collects information about the current job activities of newly licensed lawyers, such as:

    • the work that newly licensed lawyers perform;
    • the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to competently perform that work; and
    • the technology used in law practice.

    The results will provide a comprehensive picture of the core responsibilities of lawyers in their first three years of practice. It will also guide the task force as it tackles the content and design of the future bar examination to ensure it keeps pace with a rapidly changing profession. The results will also inform law schools, employers, and the public of the expectations and responsibilities of newly licensed lawyers.

    NCBE will publish a report of the survey results early next year.

    Please participate in this important study of the legal profession by setting aside 15-20 minutes to answer the survey at www.testingtaskforce.org/2019PAsurvey. The survey is anonymous, and is available until Sept. 30, 2019.

    If you have any questions or concerns about the survey, please contact NCBE directly at taskforce@ncbex.org.
