Feb. 2, 2022 – Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, lawyers must explore new ways of networking.
One tip: Don’t overlook social media.
“LinkedIn has been a lifeline for me during the pandemic,” said Emily Stedman, past president of the State Bar of Wisconsin Young Lawyers Division (YLD). “I’ve grown my network online – and offline, because more people read your posts than will ever comment or like them, but they’ll talk to you about them when they run into you in real life.”

12th annual Young Lawyers Conference. After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the conference is returning to Wisconsin Dells.
The conference, sponsored by the State Bar of Wisconsin Young Lawyers Division (YLD), is filled with information and insights specifically for young lawyers, and is a great way to gain CLE and expand your network of colleagues.
“This is free opportunity to get CLE credit and to network with young attorneys – what’s not to love?” said Stedman, a speaker at the conference. “It’s also a YLD staple event that we’ve missed tremendously in the pandemic, and I am sure the YLD comes back stronger than ever.”

“This event is a great chance to see old friends – but don’t forget to meet new folks as well,” Stedman said. “Now more than ever young lawyers need to expand their networks in meaningful ways, and this conference is a perfect opportunity to do that.”
Register soon – tuition is complimentary for members of the State Bar of Wisconsin Young Lawyers Division (YLD) – lawyers under the age of 36 or who are in their first five years of practice.
“This conference is near and dear to my heart, as a former two-time co-chair of the event,” Stedman said. “It was the first YLD event I attended after joining the bar in 2014. You gain practical knowledge via the CLE sessions and get to meet people from across the state you wouldn’t normally meet.”
CLE Sessions for Young Lawyers
In addition to being a past president of the YLD, Stedman is a senior commercial litigation associate at Husch Blackwell in Milwaukee. She is also a member of the Wisconsin Taskforce on Lawyer Well-Being, and will be speaking in the session “Being an Attorney in 2022 is Tough: How To Balance Mental Health While Excelling in Your Legal Career.”
Additional CLE sessions feature a mix of current issues and developing concerns that are important to young lawyers. Presentations include advice from the bench, tips on how to make it easier to be an attorney in 2022, what you need to know about ethics when working remotely, and the session “What’s New in the World of Cryptocurrency, Blockchain, and NFTs.”

Celebrate a Mentor and an Outstanding Young Lawyer
The conference is also a time to celebrate a mentor – helping young lawyers gain experience and shape their careers – and a peer – a young lawyer making a difference in their community.
The recipients of the YLD's 2022 Outstanding Mentor and Outstanding Young Lawyer awards will be announced at the conference.
