Oct. 2, 2024 – Larry J. Martin, who has served as Executive Director for the State Bar of Wisconsin since 2017, recently announced that he will retire effective Sept. 2, 2025.

“It has been my privilege to be a part of the State Bar’s mission of serving our members, the court and the public,” Martin wrote in a letter to the State Bar’s Board of Governors.

“More importantly, it has been my pleasure to be a part of a legal community of lawyers, judges, Justices, and colleagues that tirelessly work every day to ensure access to justice and the preservation of the rule of law. It is a community that I am proud to count myself a part.”

Martin first joined the State Bar as the Member Services Director in 2011. In 2014, he was promoted to associate Executive Director. In 2017, he succeeded George Brown as Executive Director. When he retires in 2025, it will be after 14 years with the State Bar.

But Martin says his work is not done. “Over the next year, I will continue to work to move the mission and goals of the State Bar of Wisconsin forward,” he said.

“I look forward to continuing to contribute to advancing what many consider to be one of the most innovative and service-focused state bars in the country. The time has simply come for me to step aside and pursue the next chapter of my life. I am profoundly grateful for the many experiences, friendships and accomplishments that together we have had. I love who I work for, and who I work with. For this I thank you.”
