Annual Convention offers networking opportunities and member
recognition events
The 2004 State Bar Annual Convention, May 5 - 7, at the Monona
Terrace Convention Center in Madison includes many social events to help
you start or end your day.
May 5. Mix and mingle with old and new colleagues at
Wednesday's opening reception, 4:15 - 5:45 p.m., in the 2004 Legal Expo
exhibit area. Visit Legal Expo for fresh ideas and innovative solutions
from more than 30 businesses and organi zations that provide products
and services to the legal community.
Also on Wednesday night, stop in at the Volunteer Lawyers Recognition
Celebration, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., and honor your colleagues who made
outstanding pro bono, public service, or law-related education
contributions in 2003.
Both events are free; all convention attendees are welcome.
May 6. Join Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice
Shirley S. Abrahamson, Gov. James Doyle (invited), and Rep. Mark D.
Gundrum for a lively discussion at the Speaker Showcase "Access
to Justice: How Do We Make It Happen?" Thursday luncheon.
Topics include Wisconsin's current state of affairs and plans to make
access to justice for all people more of a reality.
The Intellectual Property Law Section CLE "Intellectual
Property Case Law: The Year in Review" luncheon also is offered
on Thursday. Both luncheons are ticketed events.
Michelle Behnke will be sworn in as the 49th State Bar president at
5:15 p.m. Immediately following the swearing-in ceremony, convention
attendees are invited to attend a reception honoring the new
president.
May 7. Start Friday at the popular Law Practice
Section's breakfast symposium and talk about the business of lawyering,
7:15 - 8:20 a.m.
Chief Justice Abrahamson will join the Bar in honoring attorneys who
were admitted to practice in 1954 (see page 7 for a list of this year's
honorees)and recipients of the 2003 Judge of the Year and Lifetime
Jurist awards at the Members' Recognition luncheon at 12:30 p.m.
Outgoing State Bar President George Burnett will present the President's
Award to individuals who made special contributions to the legal
profession during the past year.
Conclude your convention stay at the annual golf tournament. Tee
times begin at 11 a.m. at the Maple Bluff Country Club.
