There are no ethics rules specifically related to lawyer departures, says Pierce. However, he observes that some lawyers mistakenly believe they have a right to representation of a client and related files. Pierce reiterates that lawyers have no right to the current or future representation of a client. Clients have a right to counsel of their choice.
