Dec. 16, 2011 – Madison attorneys Patrick J. Fiedler, Axley Brynelson LLP, and William White, Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, have accepted nominations to run for 2012 State Bar president-elect. The president-elect serves a one-year term before becoming president.

“I’ve been a State Bar member since I graduated from Marquette Law School back in 1980. As a new lawyer, I never felt a connection with the bar,” Fiedler said. “Rather, it was something that I had to join and pay annual dues to. Over the years, I’ve come to realize how important the State Bar can be to its members if those members see it as being relevant to them. If I’m elected, one of my main areas of focus will be seeking input from all members, no matter their age or type of law which they practice. In my opinion, the State Bar needs continual member feedback to ensure that it is a resource for all lawyers and that those lawyers see membership as being something that is advantageous as opposed to something that is mandatory.”

White said, “I am pleased to be asked to stand for election as president-elect of the State Bar of Wisconsin. I expect to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, which will allow us, as lawyers, to continue to lead by example. Being an attorney has been a satisfying experience, both personally and professionally, and I look forward to further service.”

The nominees for secretary are Marcia Y. Lucas, Northern Trust Co., Chicago, and Jennifer Ann Stuber, Hogan & Melms LLP, Rhinelander. The secretary serves a two-year term.

The nominees for Judicial Council are Christine Rew Barden, Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren SC , Madison, Thomas W. Bertz, Anderson, O'Brien, Bertz, Skrenes & Golla, Stevens Point, and Nicholas Vivian, Eckberg, Lammers, Briggs, Wolff & Vierling PLLP, Hudson. The Judicial Council representative serves three years.

The candidates were selected by the State Bar Nominating Committee, chaired by President-elect Kevin G. Klein of Phillips.
