Volunteers Needed for Our Courts Wisconsin
Sept. 25, 2012 – Research shows that the more knowledge the
public has about the court system, the better the public’s
perceptions of the court. Consequently, the State Bar of
Wisconsin’s Public Education Committee is launching a new program
aimed at providing nonpartisan informational programs to the public
about Wisconsin state and federal courts.
The program, called “Our Courts Wisconsin,” is based on the
successful “Our Courts” program developed by Colorado in
2007. The Colorado Our Courts program has provided more than 350
presentations to over 10,000 Colorado residents in the past 5 years. Our
Courts Wisconsin hopes to replicate this successful program. Programs
will be presented to adult audiences throughout Wisconsin beginning in
April 2013.
State Bar members are encouraged to become involved in this valuable
community service by volunteering to assist in various aspects of
program development.
The Our Courts Task Force would welcome your participation assisting in
writing the programs (Program Subcommittee); recruiting and training
speakers (Speakers Subcommittee); or marketing the program to community
groups and service organizations (Marketing Subcommittee).
If you are interested in helping to provide nonpartisan information to
adult audiences about the court and legal system, Our Courts would
welcome your assistance! Please contact Marsha Varvil-Weld, State Bar Public Education
Coordinator at (608)250-6191 or email mvarvil-weld@wisbar.orgto volunteer or for
more information.
