International Practice Section Board Member Joseph M. Rivas was inducted into the Fellows of the Wisconsin Law Foundation October 18, 2016.

The Fellows program recognizes members of the profession who are known by their peers for high professional achievements and outstanding contributions to the advancement and improvement of the administration of justice in Wisconsin. New Fellows are elected by the Fellows Board of Trustees. Joe is one of 65 members of the Fellows Class of 2016.
Joseph M. Rivas is a 1974 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), where he received a B.S. in education. He received his law degree from the U.W. Law School in 1979.
Joe was the founding president of the Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association (1984-86) and served as chair of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (1992-94). He has been president of the Wisconsin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and chair of the board of directors of the Spanish Center. He is currently the District #10 Coordinator of the Milwaukee Archdiocese’s Justice for Immigrants Committee, and served as vice president of the board of directors of the Latino Chapter of the UWM Alumni Association.
Jennifer Jin, Notre Dame 2008, provides compliance, audit defense, and litigation services to companies relating to taxes and international trade as a member of Husch Blackwell’s Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation team in Milwaukee.
Joe is a member of the Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and the Milwaukee and Wisconsin Bar Associations. He currently serves as the Wisconsin Liaison to the Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He is also a board member of the State Bar of Wisconsin International Practice Section.
Joe is a speaker on immigration law issues in various settings, including radio and television. He has testified in circuit court proceedings as an expert on immigration law.
He was honored as the "Alumni of the Year" at the 1985 LEO program at the U.W. Law School. Joe is listed in Best Lawyers in America under the section of Immigration Law. He is fluent in Spanish.
