Dec. 7, 2018 – Grant Birtch and Kathleen Brost have accepted nominations to run for 2019 State Bar of Wisconsin president-elect. Birtch is with Von Briesen and Roper S.C. and Brost is with Legacy Private Trust Co., both in Neenah.

The president-elect serves a one-year term before becoming president for the 2019-20 year.

The nominees for treasurer are Eric Andrews, McCoy Leavitt Laskey LLC, Waukesha; and Kathryn Bullon, Deerhaven Consulting Services, Sombra, Ontario, Canada. The treasurer serves a two-year term.

The candidates for Judicial Council representative are Howard Bichler of Wisconsin Judicare, Cumberland; and Sarah Zylstra of Boardman & Clark LLP, Madison. The Judicial Council representative serves three years.

“I encourage everyone to get to know each of the candidates to learn about their outstanding accomplishments and goals for the future,” said Jill Kastner, State Bar president-elect and chair of the Nomination Committee. “Each candidate is dedicated to serving our members and our justice system.”

The candidates are nominated by the State Bar Nomination Committee. Committee members were appointed by State Bar President Chris Rogers for the State Bar’s April 2019 election cycle. Members are:

    • Joseph Cardamone, Kenosha
    • Makda Fessahaye, Madison
    • Robert Gagan, Green Bay
    • Deanne Koll, New Richmond

“The Nominating Committee worked hard to recruit a diverse group of experienced leaders from across the state – and a nonresident lawyer,” Kastner said.

State Bar members can also run for an officer position by filing a petition signed by 100 active State Bar members. The deadline to submit a petition is Feb. 1, 2019. For more information and to receive a petition, contact Jan Marks at (608) 250-6106, or (800) 444-9404, ext. 6106.
