Board names FY 06 chair, Executive Committee members, and more

The State Bar Board of Governors held its final 2004 - 05 meeting on
May 3
and 4 in Milwaukee. For FY 06, which begins July 1, the board elected
a board
chair, Executive Committee members, and WisTAF board members. The
board also
elected State Bar ABA representatives and approved the FY06 budget.
Chair of the Board. The board approved the
Nomination Committee’s
recommendation to appoint Kent Carnell, Madison, to
serve
as FY 06 board chair. The chair is a board of governors
member-at-large. The
chair also serves as an executive committee ex officio member and
presides
at board meetings. The chair performs the duties of the president in
the absence
or disability of the president or in the event of a vacancy in the
office of
president. Carnell’s term as a district governor expires on June
30,
therefore, there is no need to fill a vacancy. The chair’s term
begins
July 1.
Executive Committee. Twelve board members submitted
their
names to serve on the FY 06 Executive Committee. Those elected to
serve include: Joseph
M. Cardamone III, Salem; Gwendolyn Connolly,
Milwaukee; William
J. Domina, Milwaukee; Kenneth A. Knudson,
Superior; Mark
A. Pennow, Green Bay; and Gretchen G. Viney,
Baraboo.
State Bar President D. Michael Guerin, Milwaukee,
President-elect Steve
Levine, immediate Past President Michelle
Behnke,
and Carnell, all of Madison, plus one representative
each
from the nonresident, government, young, and senior lawyers divisions,
also
serve on the committee. All terms begin July 1.
The Executive Committee has all the powers and is authorized to
perform all
the duties of the Board of Governors between the meetings of the
board, except
the Executive Committee may not amend the bylaws, make rules or
regulations
governing nominations or elections, prescribe regulations for
proceedings before
grievance committees, or initiate the taking of any referendum or poll
of members
of the association.
WisTAF. The board unanimously approved the
appointment of
attorneys John Bermingham, Oshkosh, G.
Jeffrey George,La
Crosse, and Donsia Strong Hill , Oneida, to the
Wisconsin
Trust Account Foundation (WisTAF) board. The Wisconsin Supreme Court
created
WisTAF in 1986. WisTAF manages the state’s Interest on Lawyers
Trust
Account program and provides financial support for the delivery of
legal services
to Wisconsin’s poor. Terms begin July 1.
ABA representatives. Grant C.
Killoran ,
Milwaukee, and Jessica King, Oshkosh, were elected to
the
ABA House of Delegates. Their terms begin at the close of the 2005 ABA
Annual
Meeting in August.
The board unanimously approved the FY 06 annual State Bar budget.
