State Bar to Host Life Planning Hotline on Tuesday
Local attorneys volunteer for regional public service
FOX VALLEY, March 31, 2004 - To remind Wisconsin
families about the importance of preparing for future health needs, the
State Bar of Wisconsin has scheduled a Life Planning Hotline on Tuesday,
March 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. Callers can dial 888-768-1062 to get
questions answered by volunteer attorneys and healthcare
professionals.
"The State Bar is working with city officials, local bar associations
and the medical community to promote awareness on this issue. Families
faced with medical emergencies can find themselves unprepared," said
State Bar President R. George Burnett. "This hotline offers residents of
the Fox Valley the ability to explore options and provide for future
medical treatment before emergencies happen," he said.
The State Bar of Wisconsin's Life Planning Hotline is also sponsored
by the Fox Valley Coalition for End-of-Life Care which is comprised of
community volunteers and local health care organizations including
Affinity Health System, ThedaCare at Home, and UW Health Family
Practice. The Coalition works to improve end-of-life care and choices
for Fox Valley residents and their families and physicians.
The hotline event will take place at ThedaCare at Home, in Neenah
from 5 to 7 p.m. Callers can obtain information on advance directives,
living wills, medical powers of attorney and declarations to
physicians.
"Life Planning Day is a reminder to discuss health care decisions and
put your wishes in writing. Both you and your family will have peace of
mind from making your medical wishes known," said Neenah Attorney and
Coalition volunteer, Ben Adams. "The hotline is free and open to the
public. We hope many Fox Valley area residents will take advantage of
this public service."
In addition to Adams, Fox Valley area attorneys Bill Woodrow, Louis
Archambault, Grant Birtch, Jeanne Baivier, Greg Curtis, Doug Hahn, Franz
Mauer, Jan Porter, Jesse Ostrom, Dan Huber, Richard Gamble, and
Michelle Birschbach will also volunteer their legal expertise for this
two-hour public service.
Since 1999, the State Bar has distributed more than one hundred
thousand life planning kits. A Gift to Your Family provides information,
instructions and medical forms. The State Bar will have free kits on
hand during the hotline. Or forms can be downloaded at http://www.legalexplorer.com/lifeplanning/life.asp.
