Twin Ports Launch Life Planning Day
Cities of Superior and Duluth Join Forces with State Bar to Host
Telephone Hotline
MADISON, January 29, 2004 - To remind Wisconsin
families about the importance of preparing for future health needs,
Mayor Dave Ross, Superior, and Mayor Herb Bergson, Duluth, have
proclaimed Feb. 5th as "Life Planning Day." On Thursday, Feb. 5 both
officials will present a joint Life Planning proclamation at a 3:30 p.m.
press conference at the law office of Hendricks, Knudson, Gee &
Torvinen SC, 1507 Tower Ave., suite 312, Superior.
"I am pleased to join Mayor Bergson in this important public
service," Ross said. "Planning ahead for future health needs can make
all the difference to you and your family during a medical
emergency."
"Life Planning Day is a reminder to discuss health care decisions and
put your wishes in writing before an emergency happens," said Bergson.
"Both Superior and City of Duluth residents can benefit from a free
hotline that's open to the public."
Later that day, from 5 to 7 p.m., the State Bar of Wisconsin will
host a Life Planning Hotline where volunteer attorneys will be on hand
to answer questions and provide life planning information. Callers can
dial (800) 486-9887 to learn more about advance directives, medical
powers of attorney, declarations to physicians and other end-of-life
treatment options.
"Our law firm is pleased to join the State Bar in hosting the Life
Planning Hotline," said Attorney Ken Knudson. "Free life planning kits
will also be available to help residents plan for future health needs
and medical treatment options."
Since 1999, the State Bar has distributed more than one hundred
thousand life planning kits to help Wisconsin residents prepare for
their medical future. A Gift to Your Family provides information,
instructions and medical forms.
The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association,
created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for attorneys who hold a law
license in Wisconsin. With more than 20,000 members, the State Bar aids
the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides
continuing legal education for its members to help them maintain their
expertise, and assists Wisconsin lawyers in carrying out community
service initiatives to educate the public about the legal system and the
value of lawyers.
