Dec. 4, 2009 – James M. Brennan, Catholic Charities; Sarah Fry Bruch, Crivello Carlson SC; Margaret Wrenn Hickey, Becker & Hickey SC; and Jay A. Urban, Urban & Taylor SC, all of Milwaukee, have accepted nominations to run for 2010 State Bar president-elect. The president-elect serves a one-year term before becoming president.
The three nominees for secretary are nonresident lawyers. Michael J. Remington, Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, Washington, D.C.; Daniel F. Rinzel, Redmon, Peyton & Braswell LLP, Alexandria, Va.; and Benton C. Strauss, Strauss & Malk LLP, Northbrook, Ill. The secretary serves a two-year term.
This is the first State Bar election that allows nonresident members to run for State Bar officer posts. On Nov. 2, the Wisconsin Supreme Court unanimously approved State Bar petition to amend Supreme Court Rule 10.04(1) to permit non-resident members of the State Bar to hold office as treasurer, secretary, and chairperson of the Board of Governors. Four nominees for Judicial Council are Gregory John Cook, Greg Cook Law Offices SC; William C. Gleisner III, Law Offices of William C Gleisner III, Catherine A. La Fleur, La Fleur Law Office SC; and Paul J. Scoptur, Aiken & Scoptur SC; all of Milwaukee. The Judicial Council representative serves three years.
The candidates were selected by the State Bar Nominating Committee, chaired by Kevin G. Klein of Phillips.

Board of Governors
Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, and 16 will elect governors in 2010. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects five; District 6 (Waukesha) elects two; District 9 (Dane) elects four; and all other districts elect one. The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year terms.
To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition signed by 10 active members in their district at the State Bar by March 1, 2010. To receive a petition, visit Board of Governors or contact Marks.
Division elections
The State Bar's four divisions are selecting candidates to run in their 2010 elections.
Government Lawyers Division (GLD) members will choose three division directors to serve two-year terms. Interested GLD members are invited to write to the GLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Feb. 1.
Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and five directors to serve two-year terms. Please note that only active and emeritus-status NRLD members can run for these positions. Interested NRLD members are asked to send resumes and letters of interest to the NRLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Jan. 15.
Senior Lawyers Division (SLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term, a treasurer for a two-year term, three directors to serve two-year terms and one director to serve a one-year term. Interested SLD members should send resumes and letters of interest to the SLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Jan. 15.
Young Lawyers Division (YLD) members interested in running for division president-elect are invited to write to the YLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Feb 1. YLD directors and other officers will be elected during the annual meeting in May, by nomination from the floor.

Timing of elections
Election ballots will be mailed no later than April 9, 2010, and must be returned by April 23, 2010. Persons elected will take office July 1, 2010.
