Nov. 12, 2010 – James Andrew Carney, Carney, Davies & Thorpe LLC, Janesville, and Kevin G. Klein, Klein Law Office S.C., Phillips, have accepted nominations to run for 2011 State Bar president-elect. The president-elect serves a one-year term before becoming president. The candidates were selected by the State Bar Nominating Committee, chaired by Charles “Mike” Kernats of Madison.
Nominees for treasurer are Nicholas J. Vivian, Eckberg, Lammers, Briggs, Wolff & Vierling PLLP, Stillwater, Minn., and Kelly C. Nickel, Leece & Phillips Law Offices S.C., Elkhorn. The treasurer serves a two-year term.
Nominees for Judicial Council are Joseph M. Cardamone III, Kenosha County Corporation Counsel, Kenosha, and Beth Ermatinger Hanan, Gass Weber Mullins LLC, Milwaukee. The Judicial Council representative serves three years.
"The Nomination Committee chose a well-qualified group of candidates with different experiences," says Kernats. "All of the candidates have long experience participating in Bar committees and leadership positions. The candidates include a member of the Young Lawyers Division, a member of the Government Lawyers Division, and two women. The candidates come from northern Wisconsin, Janesville, Kenosha, Elkhorn, and Milwaukee. The committee chose candidates from small firms, large firms, government, and a solo practitioner."

Board of Governors
Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 will elect governors in 2011. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects seven; District 9 (Dane) elects three; and all other districts elect one. The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year terms.
To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition signed by 10 active members in their district at the State Bar by March 1, 2011. To receive a petition, visit Board of Governors or contact Marks.
Division elections
The State Bar Government Lawyers (GLD), Nonresident Lawyers (NRLD), Senior Lawyers (SLD), and Young Lawyers (YLD) divisions are selecting candidates for their elections.
Government Lawyers Division (GLD) members will choose a president-elect, secretary, and treasurer and three division directors to serve two-year terms. GLD members are invited to write to the GLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Feb. 1.
Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and a secretary, a treasurer, and five directors to serve two-year terms. Only active and emeritus-status NRLD members can run for these positions. NRLD members should send their resumes and letters of interest to the NRLD Nominating Committee Chair in care of the State Bar by Jan. 15.
Senior Lawyers Division (SLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and a secretary and three directors to serve two-year terms. SLD members should write to the SLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Jan. 15.
Young Lawyers Division (YLD) members will choose a division president-elect. YLD members are invited to write to the YLD Nominating Committee Chair in care of the State Bar by Feb. 1. YLD directors and other officers will be elected during the annual meeting in May, by nomination from the floor.

Timing of elections
Election ballots will be mailed no later than April 8, 2011, and must be returned by April 22, 2011. Persons elected will take office July 1, 2011.
