State Bar president-elect post goes to Burnett

R. George Burnett of Liebmann, Conway,
Olejniczak & Jerry S.C. in Green Bay has won the race for State Bar
president-elect. Burnett received 3,056 votes. His opponent, John E.
Bermingham of Oshkosh, received 2,088 votes. Burnett's term begins July
1 when Pat Ballman, Milwaukee, succeeds Gerry Mowris as State Bar
President.
"It is an honor and a challenge to have been elected to this office,"
said Burnett. "I look forward to working with Pat Ballman as she begins
her term as president of the State Bar of Wisconsin and with the Board
of Governors as it continues to address the many difficult issues facing
our profession."
In other State Bar elections, Pamela Pepper of
Milwaukee's Pamela Pepper, Attorney at Law S.C., was elected State Bar
secretary, defeating Percy L. Julian Jr. of Madison's Julian &
Associates S.C., 2,860 votes to 2,124 votes.
Ruth A Bachman, Assistant District Attorney of
Barron County, Barron defeated Peggy L. Podell of Milwaukee's Law
Offices of Podell & Podell, for a seat on the Judicial Council,
3,052 votes to 1,884 votes.

Karin J. Wagner of Milwaukee's Weiss Berzowski Brady
LLP defeated Shawn D. Guse of Madison's Quarles & Brady LLP for
president-elect of the Young Lawyers Division 432 votes to 300 votes.
Paul E. Conrad, of Charlottesville, Va. is the
president-elect of the Nonresident Lawyers Division. The
presidents-elect will begin their terms on July 1.
